ChatGPT Rolls Out Year in Review Feature to Five English-Speaking Markets

OpenAI has begun rolling out "Your Year with ChatGPT," a personalized recap feature that allows users to review their interactions with the AI chatbot over the past year. The feature is currently available to users in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia who meet specific account requirements.

To access the year-end review, users must have both saved memory and chat history enabled in their account settings. The feature requires the latest version of the ChatGPT app and is being deployed gradually throughout the day, meaning not all eligible users will see it immediately.

How to Access Your Recap

Users can check if the feature has rolled out to their account by looking for "Your Year with ChatGPT" in their app. Alternatively, they can manually trigger it by tapping the plus sign to add an app and asking ChatGPT to "show me my year with ChatGPT."

The feature appears to be part of a broader trend among AI platforms to provide users with wrapped-style summaries, similar to Spotify's annual Year in Review. While OpenAI has not released specific details about what metrics or insights the recap includes, the requirement for saved memory and chat history suggests it draws from users' conversation patterns, frequently discussed topics, and overall usage trends.

Privacy Considerations

The feature's dependency on chat history and memory settings highlights OpenAI's approach to balancing personalization with user privacy. Users who have disabled these features for privacy reasons will not be able to access the year-end recap, which stores and analyzes conversation data to generate insights.

This launch comes as OpenAI continues to expand ChatGPT's capabilities across consumer and enterprise segments. The company recently raised $12.2 billion at an $85.2 billion valuation to build what it describes as a unified AI superapp, and enterprise revenue has grown to represent 40% of the business as its Codex coding tool reaches 3 million weekly users.

The gradual rollout strategy suggests OpenAI is testing server capacity and user response before expanding the feature to additional markets. Users outside the initial five countries will need to wait for future announcements regarding availability in their regions.

For now, eligible users in English-speaking markets can check their apps periodically to see if the personalized recap has arrived. Those interested in similar year-end insights from AI tools might also explore how other platforms like Claude and Gemini are approaching user analytics and personalization features.
