Figma Integrates GPT-5.6 Into Make, Improving Design Generation and Token Efficiency

Figma announced today that GPT-5.6 from OpenAI for Business is now available in Figma Make, the company's AI-powered design generation tool. The integration brings improved output quality when building from existing designs and reduces token consumption during the generation process.

The update positions Figma Make to handle more complex design workflows while using fewer computational resources. According to early testing results shared by the company, the new model delivers noticeably stronger results when working with established design systems and component libraries.

Stronger Outputs From Context

GPT-5.6's improved contextual understanding allows Figma Make to better interpret existing design patterns, component structures, and brand guidelines. When users generate new screens or components based on current designs, the model maintains consistency more reliably than previous versions.

This capability matters most for teams working with mature design systems. Rather than producing generic layouts, the AI can now reference existing components, spacing rules, and typography choices to generate designs that fit naturally into established products. The model handles edge cases better and requires fewer manual corrections after generation.

Token efficiency gains mean teams can generate more iterations within the same usage limits. Figma did not disclose specific percentage improvements, but described the efficiency gains as substantial enough to impact daily workflows for heavy Make users.

OpenAI for Business Integration

The GPT-5.6 implementation runs through OpenAI for Business, which provides enterprise-grade security and compliance features. User prompts and generated designs do not train future models, and data remains within the customer's organizational boundary. This addresses privacy concerns that have limited AI adoption in regulated industries.

Figma previously integrated AI capabilities through various Weave tools and launched generative plugins that let users build custom AI tools on demand. The GPT-5.6 update represents a model-level improvement rather than a new feature, making existing Make functionality more capable without changing the interface.

The update arrives as design tools increasingly compete on AI quality and speed. Tools like Lovable and Cursor have pushed AI-assisted development forward, while Bolt and v0 have introduced competing approaches to generating production-ready interfaces. Figma's advantage lies in its existing user base and design system integration, which GPT-5.6 can now leverage more effectively.

Availability

GPT-5.6 is available immediately to all Figma Make users. The company has not announced pricing changes associated with the model upgrade. Teams using Make will automatically access the new model through the existing interface, with no migration or setup required.

Figma continues to expand its AI capabilities across the platform, following recent updates to Motion and the Design Agent with MCP connectors. The GPT-5.6 integration suggests the company will continue updating underlying models as new versions become available, rather than locking Make into a single AI generation.
