Figma Expands Figma Motion with Reusable Styles and Lottie Export

Figma Motion now lets teams save custom animation styles, publish them to libraries and reuse the same motion rules across projects. The update also adds Lottie export, while audio on the timeline and text animations are due to follow.

In a LinkedIn post, Figma described custom animation styles as part of a design system. Once a style has been saved and published to a library, it becomes available for repeated use rather than being recreated for each design.

Those styles can also be applied automatically by Figma agent and coding agents connected through MCP. Teams can reference them through skills, extending the same animation choices into AI-assisted design and coding workflows. This follows the introduction of shareable Figma Skills for AI workflows.

What Is Available in Figma Motion

A separate Figma Motion update set out four additions and their release status.

Figma Motion updateStatus on 30 September 2026What changed
Custom animation stylesAvailableSave styles and publish them to libraries
Export to LottieAvailableExport motion work in Lottie format
Audio on the timelineRolling out the following weekAdd audio directly to the motion timeline
Text animationsRolling out the following weekAnimate text within Figma Motion

The custom styles connect motion work to the same library model used for shared design-system assets. A team can define an animation once, publish it, then call the named style from the canvas, an agent or an MCP-connected coding workflow.

Lottie export provides a route out of Figma Motion for completed animation work. Audio and text animations add two more elements to the timeline, with both listed for rollout during the week after the announcement.
