Supabase is making production monitoring considerably easier for smaller teams. Its new Grafana Cloud integration connects a project to a fully configured observability environment with one click, removing the manual authentication, metric scraping and dashboard setup previously required.
The integration, detailed in an official blog post, is available on every Supabase plan, including free. Each connected project receives a pre-built dashboard, alerting and access to more than 200 metrics covering database health and infrastructure performance.
Supabase projects could already send metrics to Grafana Cloud, but doing so required users to configure the connection themselves. The new workflow turns that established integration into a dashboard-level setup process.
What the integration monitors
Once activated from the Supabase Dashboard, the integration creates and configures a Grafana Cloud instance. Authentication and metric collection are handled as part of the setup, while a pre-built observability dashboard organizes the incoming data around common production problems.
The dashboard covers signals including:
- CPU and memory pressure, which can indicate constrained compute resources
- Disk input, output and throughput, useful when investigating storage bottlenecks
- Network traffic, for identifying unusual activity or capacity issues
- Database connections and pooler behavior, particularly relevant to applications with uneven traffic
- Replication lag, an important measure for systems using replicas
- Scheduled and requested checkpoints
- Database size and query statistics
The data comes from the Supabase Metrics API. For teams already using Grafana Cloud to monitor servers or other services, Supabase metrics can sit alongside the rest of their infrastructure data rather than remaining in a separate monitoring tool.
That consolidation matters when an incident crosses service boundaries. A slow application may originate in the database, a connection pool, a server or the network. Viewing those signals together can reduce the time spent switching between dashboards and help teams narrow down the cause.
Why one-click observability matters
Observability platforms are powerful, but their initial configuration can be disproportionate work for solo builders and small businesses. Someone must establish credentials, expose or scrape metrics safely, import dashboard definitions and decide which measurements deserve attention. That overhead often means monitoring is postponed until an application is already experiencing reliability problems.
Supabase is addressing that setup gap rather than introducing a new monitoring system. The underlying dashboards are open source, and the same definitions work across self-hosted Grafana, Supabase's previous Grafana Cloud connection method and the new one-click integration. Teams are therefore not receiving a simplified dashboard with fewer signals simply because they chose the automated route.
Making the feature available on the free plan is also notable. Early-stage products can establish a performance baseline before moving to paid infrastructure, while agencies and builders managing several small projects can apply a consistent monitoring setup without configuring each deployment from scratch.
The release fits Supabase's broader effort to make operational capabilities accessible from its managed platform. It also follows integration-focused updates such as searchable field-level encryption with CipherStash, which similarly adds specialized infrastructure through a partner service.
For now, the Grafana Cloud integration covers metrics. Supabase says the integration has been designed to accommodate logs, but the announcement does not provide an availability date for that expansion. Users needing a complete incident trail will still need to consider how database metrics relate to application logs and other telemetry.
Frequently asked questions
What is Supabase Grafana Cloud integration?
Supabase Grafana Cloud integration is a one-click connection that creates a configured Grafana Cloud environment for a Supabase project. It sets up authentication, metric scraping, alerting and a pre-built dashboard containing more than 200 metrics.
Which Supabase plans include the integration?
The integration is available on every Supabase plan, including the free plan. Supabase has not identified a separate paid add-on requirement in its announcement.
What can teams monitor with the integration?
Teams can monitor CPU, memory, disk performance, network traffic, connections, pooler behavior, replication lag, checkpoints, database size and query statistics. The current release focuses on metrics; Supabase has not announced when log support will become available.
