Lovable has released a native desktop application for macOS, extending its AI-powered software development platform beyond the browser. The new app introduces local Model Context Protocol (MCP) server access, multi-tab project management, and platform-native keyboard shortcuts.
The company announced the launch on LinkedIn, making the Mac version immediately available for download at lovable.dev/download. A Windows release is planned but no timeline was provided.
Local MCP Integration
The desktop app's standout feature is support for local MCP servers. Unlike web-based implementations that rely on remote connections, the native application can communicate directly with MCP servers running on a developer's machine. This architecture enables access to local development tools, databases, and system resources without routing data through external servers.
MCP, developed by Anthropic, provides a standardized protocol for connecting AI assistants to external data sources and tools. Lovable previously added remote MCP support in February, but local server access was not possible within browser security constraints.
The local integration allows developers to:
- Connect Lovable to file systems and local databases
- Run build tools and scripts on their own machines
- Access proprietary APIs and internal services
- Work with sensitive data that cannot leave their environment
Multi-Tab Workflow
The desktop app introduces a tabbed interface for managing multiple Lovable projects simultaneously. Users can switch between active builds without opening separate browser windows or losing context.

This addresses a common workflow limitation in browser-based development tools. Previously, developers working on related projects or testing variations had to manage multiple browser tabs or windows, making it difficult to quickly reference or compare implementations.
Platform-Native Features
The macOS app includes standard desktop application behaviors that are not available in web applications:
Native keyboard shortcuts integrate with macOS conventions, including Command-Tab application switching and system-wide hotkeys for common actions. Dock integration provides persistent access and notification badges. Menu bar controls expose Lovable functions through standard macOS menus.
These features may seem minor, but they reduce cognitive friction for developers who spend hours in the platform. Muscle memory for OS-level shortcuts carries over, and the app behaves like other native tools in a developer's workflow.
Windows Development Underway
Lovable confirmed that a Windows version is "coming soon" but provided no specific release date. The company likely prioritized macOS given its strong adoption among web developers and the platform's popularity in the startup and indie builder communities that form much of Lovable's user base.
The desktop app arrives as Lovable continues to expand its capabilities beyond simple app generation. The platform recently added Claude Opus 4.7 with claimed efficiency improvements, introduced file generation and data analysis features, and launched team-based access controls through its Groups feature.
The Mac desktop app is available now at lovable.dev/download. The web version of Lovable remains fully functional for users who prefer browser-based workflows or are waiting for Windows support.
