Custom Views is a new Notion beta that lets users build their own ways to display workspace data. One example is an Obsidian-style graph view, which users can now create without waiting for Notion to add it as a native option.
The feature was announced in a LinkedIn post from the Lenny and Friends Summit. Notion described Custom Views as a way to build whatever view you want for data held in the workspace. It is currently in beta.
Custom Views Goes Beyond Notion’s Native Options
Notion already brings documents, wikis, meeting notes and project management into one workspace. Custom Views adds a way to decide how the underlying data should appear, rather than choosing only from views supplied by Notion.
The announcement does not describe a fixed set of templates or view types. Its example is a graph view similar to Obsidian, showing that the beta is intended for displays that Notion has not built itself.
For builders, the starting point is existing Notion data. A team could choose the information it wants to display, then create a view suited to that information and its workflow. The post does not detail the build process or the technical requirements for creating a view.
Notion Wants to Hold Context From Other Tools
Custom Views sits within a broader push to make Notion the shared context layer for teams and AI agents. The workspace can hold company knowledge, projects and meeting notes, while its developer platform can bring external records into Notion and send data back out.
Notion says teams can work inside the workspace or through other tools using MCP, APIs and SDKs. Its developer platform can continuously add or update external records in a Notion database. A CRM can therefore remain the system holding customer records while selected CRM data becomes available alongside day-to-day work in Notion.
That developer direction also includes tools that let Notion Agents query live data, call APIs and generate assets. It follows the release of the Notion Custom Agents API for external workflows.
Custom Views adds a visual layer to this model. Data can come from Notion or connected sources, while teams can build a display around the work they need to see.
