Notion Upgrades Version History with Real-Time Change Logs

Notion Version History now logs every change across pages and databases in real time. The upgrade adds highlighted diffs, row-level database records, clearer attribution and one-click restoration.

In the LinkedIn post, Notion lists four changes to the feature. You can see what changed in each edit, inspect changes to individual database rows, identify whether a person or an agent made an update, and return a page or database to an earlier version.

Version History Now Covers Database Rows

The row-level view brings database activity into the same history as page edits. Instead of only seeing that a database changed, workspace members can review the affected row and its recorded changes.

CapabilityWhat It Shows
Highlighted diffsThe content changed in each edit
Row-level historyChanges made to individual database rows
Author attributionThe person or agent responsible for a change
Real-time loggingChanges across pages and databases as they happen
One-click restoreAn earlier version that can be reinstated

Agent attribution adds a separate identity to automated edits. When an agent changes a page or database, Version History records that the agent made the change rather than presenting it as an unexplained workspace update.

That record can be reviewed alongside human edits. It provides a direct trail from the current content back through the actions that produced it.

Restoring Earlier Work Takes One Click

Version History also keeps recovery inside the review flow. After finding the relevant earlier version, a workspace member can restore it in one click.

The highlighted diff provides the comparison before that restoration. This lets the reviewer see the recorded edit, who or what made it, and the earlier state available to restore. The same system applies across both pages and databases, with changes logged in real time.
