Netlify announced Monday that it is removing seat-based pricing from its Pro tier, switching from a $20-per-seat model to a flat $20 monthly rate with unlimited seats. The company is also eliminating Git contributor fees and simplifying its metering structure.
The changes address what Netlify CEO Mathias Biilmann described as the platform's most common pricing complaint over the past five years. In a LinkedIn post, Biilmann said the shift reflects how AI has changed the composition of development teams, with non-traditional builders across departments now contributing to projects.
Flat Fee With No Per-User Charges
The updated Pro plan costs $20 per month regardless of team size. Previously, each additional seat added $20 to the monthly bill. Git contributor fees, which charged for any developer who touched a codebase without a paid seat, are also gone.
Biilmann said the change positions Netlify Pro 11-50% cheaper than competitors depending on team size. The company claims 98% of existing customers will see their bills stay the same or decrease.
Netlify has been expanding its infrastructure to support agentic workflows, recently shipping Stripe Projects integration and positioning Agent Experience as a production bridge for AI-generated applications. The pricing overhaul appears designed to remove friction for teams where non-engineers build using AI tools.
Simplified Usage Meters
Netlify consolidated its billing structure from multiple line items down to five core meters: bandwidth credits, compute credits, web requests, build minutes, and storage. Form submissions are now free. The company removed separate charges for cache reads, cache writes, image transformations, origin bandwidth, and function invocations.
Bandwidth and compute credits increased under the new structure, while web request allowances decreased. Netlify did not publish a detailed comparison table, but said the net effect keeps most bills flat or lower.
The five-meter approach mirrors pricing strategies at Vercel and Railway, both of which use consumption-based models without per-seat fees. Netlify's move suggests the deployment platform market is converging on usage-based pricing as AI makes it harder to define who counts as a "developer."

The pricing changes went live April 14. Existing Pro customers were automatically migrated to the new structure without requiring manual plan updates. Netlify said no action is needed from current users.
The company also recently launched Netlify Database with integrated Postgres and added support for OpenAI GPT-5.5 Instant in its AI Gateway. Both features are designed to reduce setup friction for teams building AI-powered applications.
Biilmann framed the pricing update as preparation for what he called "3 billion builders," referencing the potential for AI to make software development accessible to non-programmers. Whether that thesis plays out remains to be seen, but Netlify is betting that removing per-seat costs will make it easier for organizations to experiment with broader access to deployment infrastructure.
