Notion has added number formatting options to rollups, letting users display currencies, percentages, and decimal places without relying on formulas. The update improves how budget and financial data appear in databases.
Rollups in Notion aggregate data from related database items, such as summing costs across multiple projects or averaging values. Previously, displaying these results as formatted currency or percentages required building custom formulas. The new formatting options apply directly to rollup properties, simplifying database setup and making financial data more readable.
Currency and Percentage Support
The update includes formatting for major currencies including USD and EUR, as well as percentage display. Users can now configure rollups to show dollar signs, commas, and appropriate symbols without additional calculation fields. This is particularly useful for budget trackers, expense reports, and financial dashboards where clarity matters.
Decimal place controls allow users to set precision, whether displaying whole numbers for headcount rollups or two decimal places for monetary amounts. The formatting applies automatically as data updates, maintaining consistency across linked databases.
Streamlined Database Design
By removing the need for formula-based workarounds, the change reduces complexity in database architecture. Teams managing budgets, sales pipelines, or resource allocation can now format rollup columns directly in property settings rather than creating and maintaining separate formula columns. This makes databases easier to build and troubleshoot, especially for users less familiar with Notion's formula syntax.
The feature ships as Notion continues expanding its workspace capabilities. Earlier this year, the company launched Custom Agents that handle multi-step workflows and integrated with xAI's Grok for workspace chat. Number formatting in rollups, while more modest in scope, addresses a longstanding request from teams using Notion for financial planning and project tracking.
The rollup formatting options are available now across all Notion plans. Users can access the settings by editing any rollup property and selecting number format options in the property menu.
