Lovable has introduced drafts, a way to explore new versions of a project without touching the one that is already live. A draft is a copy of your project with its own chat and preview, so you can try a different direction and switch back to compare, all before anything reaches your published app.

How drafts work
Previously, testing a new idea in Lovable meant changing the working project directly, with a real risk of breaking something that already worked, or building a separate doc full of comments to describe the idea instead. Drafts remove that trade-off. You spin up a copy of the project, make changes in its own chat and preview, and switch between the draft and the main project to compare them side by side. Nothing touches the live app until you accept the draft and hit publish.
That also changes who can get involved. Teammates and clients can make changes in a real, working project rather than leaving comments on a static document. And because a draft does not affect the main project, you can run more than one direction at once: try two approaches to a feature, see which one actually works, and keep that one.
- 1
Open a draft
create a copy of your project with its own chat and preview
- 2
Make changes
build or edit inside the draft without affecting the live app
- 3
Compare
switch between the draft and the main project to see what changed
- 4
Publish
accept the draft and hit publish when you are ready to go live
This lands alongside other recent collaboration work from Lovable, including Lovable in Slack, which brought app building into team channels, and follows the model update covered in Lovable Adds Fable 5.1 to Its Model-Routing Stack. Drafts fit the same pattern: lower the cost of involving other people in a project that is still in progress.
Frequently asked questions
What are Lovable drafts? Drafts are copies of a Lovable project, each with its own chat and preview, that let you build and test changes without affecting the live, published app. You can switch between drafts and the main project to compare them, and nothing goes live until you accept a draft and publish it.
How is a draft different from just editing the main project? Editing the main project changes the live app directly. A draft is a separate copy, so you can experiment, invite teammates or clients to make changes, or try more than one idea in parallel, then only merge the version that works.
Which Lovable plan includes drafts? The announcement does not specify plan or pricing details for drafts. Check Lovable's own site for current plan information.
