Lovable Custom Connectors Open Workspaces to Any HTTP API

Lovable is opening its app-building platform to APIs it does not support natively. With the new Custom Connectors feature, users can create a connector for any HTTP API and make it available to everyone in their workspace, according to a LinkedIn announcement published September 1.

The change addresses a recurring limitation in AI app builders: generated applications still need to communicate with the systems where businesses keep their data and run their operations. Native integration catalogs can cover popular services, but they rarely include every specialist SaaS product, private company service or newer API.

Custom Connectors give Lovable users a route around that gap. Rather than waiting for Lovable to add official support, a workspace can define its own connection to an HTTP API and reuse it across projects.

One Connector, Shared Across the Workspace

Workspace-level availability is the most consequential part of the update. A connector created for one API becomes available to everyone in the workspace, allowing multiple builders to use the same integration instead of recreating it independently for each project.

That makes the feature relevant to several groups:

  • Enterprise teams can connect internal APIs, then let employees test ideas and build applications against company systems.
  • API providers and partners can build and validate connectors for their own products before encouraging broader adoption.
  • Independent builders and small businesses can integrate niche services that are not yet part of Lovable’s native catalog.

For a small business, that could mean connecting a custom inventory service, industry-specific booking platform or proprietary customer database. The announcement does not identify particular API categories, and it does not provide detailed configuration or authentication requirements. The stated scope is any HTTP API.

The shared model also changes connector setup from a project-level task into reusable workspace infrastructure. Once a team has established a connector, subsequent projects can build on that work. This should be particularly useful for agencies or internal product teams producing several applications around the same operational systems.

Lovable Is Building Beyond a Fixed Integration Catalog

Custom Connectors extend a broader integration push at Lovable. In an official account of its connector strategy, the company said it went from having no formal integrations to nearly 100 app connectors in six months. Opening the system to arbitrary HTTP APIs makes that catalog less of a hard boundary.

Lovable’s September 1 changelog also describes a related improvement for recognized API keys. When a user pastes a supported tool’s API key into project chat, Lovable can offer to configure a connector. That connection is stored in the workspace, can be reused across projects and can be shared with other members. Custom Connectors broaden the same general approach to services Lovable does not already recognize or support natively.

For builders, the practical benefit is flexibility. A product prototype no longer has to be designed exclusively around Lovable’s existing integrations. Teams can instead start with the API their business already relies on, then make that capability accessible to workspace members building through Lovable’s chat interface.

There are still unanswered operational questions. The announcement does not specify which paid plans include Custom Connectors, what authentication methods are supported or whether administrators can limit connector access to selected workspace members. Those details will matter for internal APIs carrying sensitive business data, particularly in larger organizations.

Even so, the direction is clear. Lovable is moving from a curated collection of supported apps toward a more extensible integration layer, where businesses and API providers can fill gaps themselves. That reduces dependence on Lovable’s native integration roadmap and makes the platform more practical for products connected to specialized or private systems.

Frequently asked questions

What is Lovable Custom Connectors?

Lovable Custom Connectors is a feature for creating reusable connections to any HTTP API. Once created, a connector becomes available to everyone in the associated Lovable workspace for use in projects.

Who are Custom Connectors intended for?

Lovable identifies enterprise teams connecting internal APIs, partners validating connectors for their own APIs, and users integrating services that Lovable does not support natively. The workspace-sharing model is also relevant to agencies and small teams that reuse the same services across several projects.

When are Custom Connectors available, and which plan is required?

Lovable’s September 1 announcement says users can create Custom Connectors now. It specifically highlights an enterprise use case, but the supplied announcement does not state whether the feature is restricted to Enterprise or identify pricing and plan requirements.
