Kajabi Ships Contact Lifecycle Tracking and Email Preference Controls to Cut Unsubscribes

Kajabi shipped two email management updates designed to help creators understand their subscribers and keep them engaged longer. Contact Lifecycle Tracking is live now, while Email Preference Controls is rolling out in stages with general availability scheduled for June 8.

The updates address a problem familiar to anyone managing an email list: thousands of contacts that look identical at first glance. Leads who have never purchased sit alongside repeat buyers and highly engaged subscribers, all undifferentiated in a single view.

Contact Lifecycle Tracking Adds Event-Level Visibility

Contact Lifecycle Tracking lets users filter a contact's history by event type and view up to 500 events per category. The system surfaces form submissions, purchases, email opens, and offer grants in a unified timeline.

The feature provides visibility into what specific actions a subscriber has taken over time. Instead of seeing only aggregate engagement metrics, creators can now trace the journey of individual contacts through their funnel, from initial opt-in through purchase behavior and content consumption patterns.

This level of detail matters when deciding how to segment lists or personalize outreach. A contact who has opened 40 consecutive emails but never purchased requires a different approach than someone who bought once six months ago and has not engaged since.

Email Preference Controls Let Subscribers Choose What They Receive

The second update, Email Preference Controls, allows subscribers to opt into specific email categories rather than choosing between all or nothing. Categories include product updates, promotional emails, and weekly digests.

The approach reduces unsubscribes by giving subscribers control. Instead of hitting the unsubscribe button because they are tired of daily promotions, they can disable promos while continuing to receive product updates or educational content.

Kajabi noted that the feature was one of the most requested on its product ideas board, accumulating over 250 votes from users. The staged rollout begins immediately, with all accounts receiving access by June 8.

The timing follows Kajabi's recent commerce updates focused on checkout optimization. Together, the updates reflect a broader effort to reduce friction at multiple points in the customer lifecycle, from initial engagement through purchase and retention.

Why Preference Controls Matter for List Health

Email preference controls have become table stakes for platforms like Substack and Beehiv, but many all-in-one creator platforms have been slower to adopt them. The addition brings Kajabi closer to parity with dedicated email tools while maintaining its integrated approach.

For creators, the calculus is simple. A subscriber who opts down to fewer email types is worth significantly more than one who unsubscribes entirely. Preference controls turn binary decisions into graduated ones, preserving list size and maintaining at least some channel access to previously engaged contacts.

Both features are available to all Kajabi users. Contact Lifecycle Tracking is accessible now through the contact management interface. Email Preference Controls will appear in stages over the next three weeks, with full deployment complete by early June.
