Kajabi Launches Backstage, a Private Client Portal for Coaches and Consultants

Kajabi Tackles the Coaching Delivery Problem With Backstage

Kajabi has launched Backstage, a private client portal designed to help coaches and consultants deliver higher-touch services without duct-taping together separate tools. Announced via LinkedIn, the product addresses what Kajabi calls the "delivery ceiling" — the gap between what a coach charges and the fragmented client experience they provide.

Backstage gives each client their own branded portal inside Kajabi, consolidating assignments, voice memos, session recordings, and chat in one place. The platform auto-transcribes voice memos, records and summarizes live sessions, and allows coaches to curate content from their existing Kajabi library into personalized client programs.

The launch follows Kajabi's recent push into AI-powered business tools, which included Cofounder, an AI strategist that builds launch plans. Backstage extends that automation into client delivery, targeting a specific pain point: coaches who struggle to scale personalized service.

What Backstage Does

Backstage is not a course platform or a scheduling tool. It is a client relationship hub. Each client gets a unique login to a portal where they see only the content, tasks, and communication relevant to them.

Key features include:

  • Personalized content paths: Coaches can pull lessons from their existing Kajabi courses and assign them to individual clients with due dates.
  • Auto-transcribed voice memos: Coaches can send voice updates that Backstage transcribes automatically, eliminating the need for written follow-ups.
  • Session recording and summaries: Live sessions are recorded and summarized, giving clients a searchable archive of their work together.
  • Direct chat: Built-in messaging keeps all communication in the portal, not scattered across email and text.

The pitch is simple: instead of sending clients a Notion doc, a Zoom link, and a Gmail thread, coaches deliver a cohesive, branded experience that justifies premium pricing.

Early Traction and Positioning

Kajabi highlighted one early adopter who launched Backstage and generated $4,000 per month in new recurring client subscriptions within a week. The company did not disclose the coach's identity or specifics about their pricing model, but the anecdote signals the kind of outcome Kajabi is targeting: faster monetization of existing expertise.

Backstage is bundled into all Kajabi plans, which start at $149 per month. There is no separate fee for the feature, making it immediately accessible to Kajabi's existing user base of coaches, consultants, and course creators.

The product competes less with traditional course platforms and more with tools like Circle, which offers community and client management, or Notion workspaces that coaches customize manually. Backstage's advantage is integration: it lives inside the same platform where users already manage their courses, emails, and payments.

The Broader Strategy

Backstage is part of Kajabi's broader move to own the entire expert business stack. Over the past year, the company has shipped contact lifecycle tracking and email preference controls, commerce updates to reduce checkout friction, and a unified media library with per-placement video analytics.

The pattern is clear: Kajabi wants to be the single tool for knowledge entrepreneurs, eliminating the need for Zapier workflows and third-party integrations. Backstage fits that vision by solving a specific problem — delivering personalized coaching at scale — that coaches currently solve with spreadsheets, manual processes, or expensive custom setups.

For coaches already on Kajabi, Backstage removes friction. For those considering a move, it is a differentiator. Whether it drives meaningful adoption depends on how well it scales beyond one-on-one coaching into group programs and hybrid models. Kajabi has not yet detailed how Backstage handles cohorts or team-based coaching, which could limit its appeal to larger operations.

What This Means for Coaches

If you are a coach or consultant charging premium rates, the delivery experience matters as much as your expertise. Clients who pay $1,500 or more expect more than access to a course library. They expect personalization, accountability, and a clear path forward.

Backstage gives you a way to deliver that without building custom infrastructure or patching together five different tools. The auto-transcription and session summaries alone save hours of admin work per client. The branded portal makes the relationship feel intentional, not improvised.

The question is whether this level of delivery unlocks higher pricing or just meets baseline expectations. Kajabi is betting on the former. Early results suggest it might be right.
