Anthropic has opened a new office in Bengaluru, marking its second location in the Asia-Pacific region and signaling a deeper commitment to the Indian market. The expansion comes alongside a series of partnerships that bring Claude into education, legal services, and digital public infrastructure across India.
The Bengaluru office will support growing demand for AI tools in one of the world's fastest-growing tech markets. Anthropic announced several partnerships that demonstrate how organizations are adapting Claude for local needs, from grading handwritten exams in regional languages to making legal information accessible via WhatsApp.
Scaling Education With AI Grading
Pratham Education Foundation, one of India's largest education nonprofits, is using Claude to grade handwritten exams and deliver feedback in both Hindi and English at scale. The partnership addresses a critical bottleneck in Indian education, where teacher shortages and large class sizes make personalized feedback difficult.
The system processes handwritten student responses, evaluates them against rubrics, and generates feedback in the student's language of choice. For Pratham, which works with millions of students across India, the ability to provide timely, constructive feedback could significantly improve learning outcomes in underserved communities.
Court Information via WhatsApp
Adalat AI launched India's first national WhatsApp helpline for court case information, powered by Claude. The service allows citizens to query case status, court dates, and procedural information through a familiar messaging interface, reducing the need to navigate complex court websites or make in-person visits.
India's court system handles over 45 million pending cases, and access to case information has historically been fragmented across state and district court systems. By centralizing this information and making it available through WhatsApp, which has over 500 million users in India, Adalat AI is removing a significant barrier to legal transparency.
Website Generation From Prompts
Rocket, another partner highlighted in the announcement, uses Claude to generate complete websites from plain language prompts. The tool aims to lower the barrier for small businesses and individuals who need an online presence but lack technical skills or resources to hire developers.
Users describe their website needs in natural language, and Rocket produces functional sites with layouts, content, and basic features. The approach fits into a broader trend of AI-powered no-code tools that are reshaping how non-technical users build digital products. Lovable, v0, and Bolt have all moved in similar directions, though each takes a different approach to translating intent into deployable code.
Strategic Expansion
The Bengaluru office follows Anthropic's earlier expansion in Singapore and reflects the company's strategy of establishing local presence in markets where AI adoption is accelerating. India's combination of a large English-speaking population, significant digital infrastructure investment, and growing demand for AI tools makes it a natural focus for Anthropic, particularly as it competes with OpenAI and Google for market share in the region.
The partnerships announced alongside the office opening suggest Anthropic is prioritizing use cases that address local challenges, from multilingual education to access to legal information. Whether this localized approach will translate into broader adoption remains to be seen, but the initial partnerships demonstrate clear applications for Claude in sectors where AI could have measurable social impact.
