Vercel shipped a free web search tool for AI models, a new GitHub Copilot adapter for its AI SDK, connector permissions, and a storage bump for Sandbox. Here's what landed for frontend and AI builders in mid-September.
Tako Search
Tako Search is now free on Vercel’s AI Gateway through September 30. The integration lets AI models search Tako’s curated data and the live web, filter results by domain or publication date, and return citations. No separate Tako account is required, developers add it to AI SDK requests with gateway.tools.takoSearch() in generateText or streamText. After the free period, standard billing applies.
GitHub Copilot harness adapter
The new @ai-sdk/harness-github-copilot adapter brings GitHub Copilot into the AI SDK harness layer. As previously reported, the harness layer launched earlier this month to let teams swap coding agents without rewriting logic. Now, developers can run Copilot through the HarnessAgent interface alongside Claude Code, Cursor, and others, all using the Agent Client Protocol under the hood.
Connector Permissions
Connector Permissions let Pro and Enterprise teams restrict who creates and manages Vercel Connect connectors. Owners enable it under Team Settings, and once active, only users with the Owner role or Connector Manager extended permission can manage connectors.
64 GB Storage for Vercel Sandbox
Vercel Sandbox storage doubles from 32 GB to 64 GB for all sandboxes, including those from Managed Images or custom images. The extra space handles larger repositories, dependencies, build artifacts, data workloads that spill to disk, and storage-heavy agent tasks. This builds on the recent sandbox routing speed boost.
