Supabase Sign in with ChatGPT Enters Beta Across AI Workflows

Supabase is reducing the distance between an AI-generated idea and the backend supporting it. The database platform has announced a beta that lets developers use their ChatGPT account to access Supabase, then connect Supabase directly inside ChatGPT and Codex.

The integration is rolling out in two places: the Supabase login page and the Supabase plugin available through ChatGPT on desktop, web, and mobile. It is a relatively small authentication change, but one aimed squarely at developers who increasingly begin projects inside an AI coding interface rather than a conventional development environment.

For people using ChatGPT Work or Codex, the beta removes a separate account setup step between writing prompts and managing the project’s backend. It also follows Supabase’s broader push into agent-assisted development, including its OpenCode integration for agentic database management and the company’s more recent open source evaluation benchmark for AI coding agents.

How Account Linking Works

On the Supabase login page, ChatGPT now appears as an authentication option alongside existing sign-in methods such as GitHub. A user selects ChatGPT, approves the request on the ChatGPT side, and is returned to the Supabase Dashboard.

What happens next depends on whether that person already has a Supabase account:

  • New users: Signing in with ChatGPT creates a Supabase account. That ChatGPT identity can then be used to manage the account going forward.
  • Existing users with a matching email: Supabase automatically links the ChatGPT identity to the existing account. It does not create a duplicate account, and ChatGPT becomes another available sign-in method.
  • SSO users: Accounts governed by single sign-on remain separate and are not automatically linked through matching email addresses.

The feature applies to access to Supabase itself. The announcement does not describe Sign in with ChatGPT as a new authentication provider for end users of applications built on Supabase.

Connecting Supabase Inside ChatGPT and Codex

The second part of the beta concerns the Supabase plugin. Developers can add it from the plugins directory in ChatGPT, authenticate using the ChatGPT session they already have open, and approve the requested access. Once confirmed, the user returns to the conversation with Supabase connected.

Importantly, authentication and authorization remain separate. Signing in establishes the user’s identity, while a subsequent consent screen shows what the plugin is being allowed to access. Connections can be revoked from the Supabase Dashboard at any time.

The setup flow is:

  1. Add Supabase from the ChatGPT plugins directory.
  2. Choose Sign in with ChatGPT.
  3. Review and confirm the consent screen.
  4. Return to the conversation with the connection active.

New Supabase users must create an organization in the Dashboard before connecting it through ChatGPT. Supabase has not announced separate pricing for the beta or specified which paid plans, if any, will ultimately be required.

The practical benefit is less context switching. Builders can move from discussing an application in ChatGPT or working through code in Codex to connecting the backend without creating another password or repeating an authentication flow. Consent remains explicit, however, so the faster sign-in does not automatically grant the plugin access to a Supabase organization or project.

Frequently asked questions

What is Supabase Sign in with ChatGPT?

Supabase Sign in with ChatGPT is a beta authentication option that lets people create, access, or link a Supabase account using their ChatGPT identity. It also simplifies authentication when connecting the Supabase plugin inside ChatGPT and Codex.

Does Sign in with ChatGPT create a second Supabase account?

Not when an existing Supabase account uses the same email address as the ChatGPT account. Supabase links the identities automatically, although SSO-managed accounts remain separate.

Where is the beta available?

The feature is rolling out on the Supabase login page and through the Supabase plugin in ChatGPT on desktop, web, and mobile. Supabase has not provided a general-availability date or announced separate pricing for it.
