n8n has announced a multi-year partnership with SAP that embeds its workflow automation platform directly inside Joule Studio, SAP's agent-building environment. The integration gives SAP developers a visual canvas for building and orchestrating AI workflows across their entire tech stack without leaving the SAP ecosystem.
The deal follows n8n's strategic investment from SAP earlier this month, which valued the company at $5.2 billion. n8n CEO Jan Oberhauser announced the partnership in a LinkedIn post, thanking SAP CEO Christian Klein and n8n's community of 1.7 million developers.
Native Integration With SAP's Cloud Infrastructure
The partnership positions n8n as the workflow orchestration layer for SAP's enterprise AI initiatives. Because n8n runs directly on SAP's cloud infrastructure, customer data never leaves the SAP environment. Organizations can apply their existing SAP security, identity, and access controls to n8n workflows from day one.
This architecture addresses a common friction point for enterprises building AI agents: the need to move data between systems and manage multiple security layers. With n8n embedded in Joule Studio, SAP developers can connect AI models, APIs, databases, and business logic on a single platform that respects their existing governance frameworks.
The integration also reflects SAP's broader strategy of opening up its ecosystem. Rather than building proprietary workflow tools, SAP is embedding a proven open-source platform that already supports over 400 integrations, including Microsoft Teams and Outlook.
Technical Flexibility for Complex Enterprise Workflows
n8n's visual workflow builder is designed for technical teams who need both no-code speed and code-level control. Developers can drag and drop nodes to prototype workflows quickly, then drop into JavaScript or Python when they need custom logic. This hybrid approach has made n8n popular among engineering teams at companies like Mercedes-Benz, which deployed the platform to 1,500 employees for AI workflow automation.
The SAP integration brings that flexibility to Joule Studio, where developers are building agents that span everything from supply chain optimization to customer service automation. n8n workflows can orchestrate calls to multiple LLMs, manage conversation state, route requests based on business rules, and integrate with SAP's core applications like S/4HANA and SuccessFactors.
n8n also supports self-hosting, which matters for regulated industries and data-sensitive use cases. Enterprises can run n8n on their own infrastructure or inside SAP's cloud, depending on compliance requirements.
Growing Competition in Enterprise AI Orchestration
The partnership intensifies competition in the enterprise automation market, where Zapier, Make, and newer AI-focused platforms are all racing to embed workflow capabilities into broader ecosystems. n8n's open-source model and technical focus differentiate it from consumer-oriented tools, but the real test will be adoption among SAP's enterprise customer base.
For SAP developers, the integration offers immediate access to n8n's library of pre-built nodes and templates. The company has been steadily expanding its AI capabilities, recently launching Desk, an open-source interface for deploying AI agents with built-in security and audit controls.
The multi-year timeline suggests both companies see this as a long-term platform play, not just an integration. As enterprises move from experimenting with AI to deploying agents in production, having a reliable orchestration layer that works natively with existing systems becomes critical infrastructure.
