Glide Adds Fuzzy Search to Improve User Navigation
Glide has launched fuzzy search across its no-code platform, allowing users to locate features and integrations even when they mistype search terms. The update addresses a common friction point: searching for "PDDF" will now surface PDF integrations and actions, while typos like "spredsheet" or "calender" will still return relevant results.
The feature works by matching similar (but not identical) terms to what users are searching for, according to Glide's announcement on LinkedIn. This type of search tolerance has become standard in consumer applications but remains less common in business software tools.
Fuzzy search is particularly useful in Glide's context. The platform offers hundreds of integrations with services like Airtable, Google Forms, and Stripe, plus dozens of built-in actions and components. As Glide's feature set has grown (including recent additions like inline templating and SheetSync technology), finding the right function in dropdowns and search bars has become more challenging.
How It Works
Fuzzy search algorithms typically use techniques like Levenshtein distance (measuring character substitutions, deletions, or insertions) to calculate similarity scores between input and available options. When a user types a query, the system ranks results by how closely they match, rather than requiring exact character-for-character correspondence.
In practice, this means:
- Transposed letters: "Gldie" finds "Glide"
- Missing characters: "integation" finds "integration"
- Extra characters: "buttton" finds "button"
- Phonetic similarities: "fone" finds "phone"
The feature appears in Glide's component selector, action menus, and integration search fields. A demo video shared by Glide's team shows the search responding in real time as users type, with results updating to show closest matches.
Why This Matters for No-Code Builders
For users building apps on Glide, especially those managing complex projects with multiple data sources and workflows, search efficiency directly impacts development speed. Stopping to correct a typo or remember exact terminology breaks flow. Fuzzy search removes that friction.
The update also reflects Glide's focus on enterprise usability. The company recently added Team SSO and data backups for Big Tables, both aimed at organizations managing larger deployments. Fuzzy search fits that trajectory by reducing training burden and support tickets related to discoverability.
Competitors in the no-code space, including Bubble, Softr, and WeWeb, have varying approaches to in-app search. Some rely on exact match filtering, while others use tag-based navigation. Glide's implementation puts it ahead on this specific usability dimension.
The fuzzy search feature is now live for all Glide users across free and paid plans. No configuration is required; it activates automatically in search fields throughout the platform.
