Framer Launches One-Click Masonry Grids for Designers

Framer has shipped Masonry Grids, a new layout feature that converts standard grids into tightly packed masonry arrangements with a single click. The update removes much of the manual work traditionally required to build Pinterest-style layouts in web design tools.

The feature announced on LinkedIn targets designers who need content-dense, responsive layouts without the usual CSS gymnastics. Any existing Grid component in Framer can now toggle to masonry mode, automatically reflowing items to fill vertical space efficiently.

How It Works

Masonry Grids differ from standard grids by eliminating uniform row heights. Instead, items stack vertically to minimize whitespace, a pattern popularized by Pinterest and commonly used in portfolios, galleries, and content hubs.

In Framer, the conversion process is immediate. Select any Grid, click the masonry toggle, and the layout engine handles positioning. Items flow into columns based on available height, adapting as content changes or viewport sizes shift. Designers retain control over column count, gap spacing, and item styling.

The feature arrives as part of Framer's March update, which also introduced Bento Grid layouts and improved Stack sorting. According to the official updates page, moving images within Stacks and Grids is noticeably faster, and placeholders now persist when items shift between containers.

Why This Matters

Masonry layouts have long been a pain point for visual builders. Webflow users typically rely on custom code or third-party plugins. Wix offers auto-positioning but with limited control. Framer's one-click approach keeps the workflow native and reversible.

The update fits Framer's broader push to close feature gaps with competitors while maintaining design flexibility. Recent releases include native right-to-left layout support and protected staging links, both aimed at teams managing complex, localized projects.

For small businesses and creators building portfolio sites, product showcases, or editorial layouts, masonry grids simplify a common design pattern. The feature requires no code and works with Framer's existing CMS, making it viable for non-technical users.

Masonry Grids are available now to all Framer users. The feature works on both free and paid plans, with no additional setup required beyond the March update.
