Poland's national healthcare system is deploying an AI voice agent this summer to tackle a persistent problem: millions of missed medical appointments each year.
The agent, powered by ElevenLabs and supported by NFZ (Poland's National Health Fund), will serve Centralna e-Rejestracja, the country's centralized appointment system. The technology specifically targets patients who rely on landlines, calling them proactively to confirm upcoming appointments and assist with rescheduling when needed.
Addressing a 4 Million Appointment Gap
The stakes are significant. Poland's healthcare system manages roughly 40 million appointments annually, with no-show rates ranging from 10 to 20 percent. That translates to 4 to 8 million wasted appointment slots each year, creating cascading delays for other patients and straining an already burdened system.
The voice agent deployment represents a pragmatic solution to a demographic reality: many Polish patients, particularly older adults in rural areas, still depend on landlines and may not regularly check SMS reminders or mobile apps. By meeting patients where they are, the system aims to reduce missed appointments and improve healthcare access across the country.
ElevenLabs announced the initiative on LinkedIn, framing it as an example of how voice AI can enhance public services. The company did not disclose specific technical details about the deployment, such as which voice model is being used or how the system handles complex scheduling scenarios.
Voice AI Enters the Public Sector
The Poland healthcare deployment follows ElevenLabs' February launch of ElevenLabs for Government, a dedicated offering aimed at public sector use cases. That initiative included features like on-premise deployment options, compliance support for government security standards, and multilingual voice capabilities designed for citizen-facing services.
Voice agents have gained traction in healthcare settings over the past year, with use cases ranging from appointment reminders to prescription refill assistance. ElevenLabs has positioned itself aggressively in this space, recently cutting API pricing by up to 55 percent and launching Speech Engine to simplify voice agent development.
The company has also demonstrated enterprise traction beyond healthcare. In April, automotive manufacturer Mahindra deployed ElevenLabs voice agents during a vehicle launch, converting thousands of potential buyers through automated phone interactions.

The Poland deployment will provide a high-visibility test of voice AI in a critical public service context. If successful in reducing no-shows and improving patient access, the model could inform similar implementations in other government healthcare systems facing appointment management challenges.
Details about the pilot's duration, evaluation metrics, and potential expansion timeline were not included in the announcement. ElevenLabs continues to expand globally, recently opening operations in Australia, New Zealand, and Spain while crossing $500 million in annual recurring revenue.
