ElevenLabs Partners With Trainline to Automate Train Refunds Using Voice AI Agents

ElevenLabs announced on LinkedIn that it is deploying voice AI agents for Trainline, Europe's largest train booking platform, to automate customer refunds when trains are cancelled or delayed. The voice agents integrate directly with Trainline's telephony and ticketing systems, enabling the company to scale automation across its broader customer service operations.

Trainline serves over 27 million customers across Europe, handling booking inquiries, trip changes, and refund requests. Refunds for delayed or cancelled trains are a high-volume, rules-based workload that often clogs support lines. By offloading this to voice agents, Trainline can resolve a portion of customer issues without human intervention, freeing agents to handle more complex cases.

The ElevenLabs voice agents handle the full refund process, including identity verification, ticket lookup, and transaction completion. They are connected to Trainline's backend systems, so they can query ticket status, check eligibility, and issue refunds in real time. The agents work across Trainline's phone support infrastructure, operating as a first line of contact for certain call types.

ElevenLabs has built its voice platform to handle enterprise-grade integrations. The system can authenticate callers, navigate multi-step workflows, and hand off to human agents when needed. The Trainline deployment is part of a broader push by ElevenLabs into enterprise voice AI, following its recent partnership with the UK Government to bring voice AI to public services and its deployment of an AI tutor for PhysicsWallah that tripled student engagement.

Beyond Refunds: Scaling to Broader Customer Service

While the initial deployment focuses on refunds, ElevenLabs and Trainline plan to expand the voice agents to other customer service functions. The system is designed to be flexible, so additional workflows can be added without rebuilding the integration.

This mirrors how other travel and logistics companies are using voice AI. Airlines, hotels, and rideshare platforms are all testing voice agents for routine requests like booking changes, status updates, and cancellations. The economics are compelling: voice agents can handle thousands of simultaneous calls, operate 24/7, and cost a fraction of human support staff.

ElevenLabs has not disclosed pricing details or the expected volume of calls the system will handle. The company also did not specify whether the voice agents will eventually replace some human support roles or simply absorb overflow demand.

ElevenLabs Pushes Deeper Into Enterprise Voice AI

The Trainline partnership is the latest in a series of enterprise deals for ElevenLabs, which has positioned itself as a full-stack voice AI provider. The company offers voice synthesis, speech-to-text, and conversational AI agents, all designed to work together in production environments.

ElevenLabs has been steadily expanding its agent capabilities. The company recently launched Avatars in ElevenCreative for lip-synced talking-head video generation and opened its Music v2 API for developers embedding AI music generation. The company crossed $500 million in annual recurring revenue in May, backed by investors including BlackRock and NVIDIA.

For Trainline, the deployment is a test of whether voice AI can handle the variability and volume of real-world customer service. If successful, it could set a template for how other high-traffic platforms offload routine support tasks to automated agents.
