Vercel Makes Ling 3.0 Flash Fin Free on AI Gateway

Vercel is adding a finance-focused language model to its AI Gateway, giving developers a temporary window to test long-context financial research workflows without paying for model requests.

Ling 3.0 Flash Fin from Inclusion AI is available through Vercel AI Gateway and will remain free to use through September 25, according to the company’s changelog announcement. The model combines a 256K-token context window with reasoning, function calling and output of up to 32K tokens.

Those specifications make it potentially useful for applications that need to process lengthy reports, filings or collections of financial documents, then call external tools before returning an answer. Vercel says the model is designed for financial research and analysis, including multi-step workflows involving multiple tool calls.

A finance-tuned version of Ling 3.0 Flash

Ling 3.0 Flash Fin is a finance-focused version of Inclusion AI’s broader Ling 3.0 Flash model. Rather than introducing a general-purpose model with a finance label added at the gateway level, Vercel is listing a dedicated model variant intended for domain-specific research and analysis.

The combination of a large context window and function calling is the more consequential part of the release. A 256K-token context window lets an application provide substantial source material in a single request, subject to the app’s own implementation and gateway limits. Function calling allows the model to request actions from connected tools, such as retrieving records, querying an internal data source or running a calculation.

Its maximum output length of 32K tokens also supports detailed responses, although most production applications will want to constrain output for latency, readability and cost once the free period ends.

For small teams, the free window provides an opportunity to test whether a specialized model performs better for a financial workflow before committing to paid usage. Relevant prototypes could include document-review assistants, internal research tools, financial data interfaces and agents that gather information through several tools before composing a report. As with any model used for finance, outputs should still be checked against original sources and deterministic calculations before they inform consequential decisions.

Developers need to choose the right model ID

Vercel is offering two model identifiers, and the distinction determines what happens after September 25:

  • inclusionai/ling-3.0-flash-fin keeps working after the promotion. Requests are free during the offer, then begin billing at Vercel’s standard rate when the free period finishes.
  • inclusionai/ling-3.0-flash-fin-free stops working after the promotion. Requests made after September 25 return an error, preventing an application from silently moving into paid usage.

That second option is particularly useful for experiments, demonstrations and short-lived evaluations where avoiding an unexpected bill matters more than continuity. Production teams may prefer the standard identifier, but they will need to account for paid requests after the offer expires. Vercel did not include the post-promotion standard rate in the supplied announcement.

The release also broadens Vercel’s effort to make AI Gateway a single access layer for models with different specialties and context limits. It follows the addition of Hy4 Preview for long-context workloads. Vercel has separately introduced per-user AI Gateway budgets, giving teams another mechanism for controlling usage as experiments become deployed applications.

Ling 3.0 Flash Fin does not remove the need to evaluate model quality on a company’s own data. Still, free access and a charge-blocking model ID lower the practical risk of running that evaluation.
