Vercel Schedules lets agents and applications create, change or cancel one-time and recurring schedules through code, without redeploying an app. The feature is now in public beta.
The launch blog post positions Schedules as an extension of Vercel Cron Jobs. Cron Jobs remain suited to tasks defined in code and updated through configuration and a fresh deployment. Schedules adds runtime control for work that needs to change while an application is running.
That covers jobs such as database backups and synchronising data between systems. It also gives agents a way to adjust scheduled work as their conversations with users evolve.
How Vercel Schedules Changes Cron Work
A schedule can run on a recurring cron cadence or at a single point in time. When it fires, it can dispatch work to a Vercel Function or a Vercel Queue topic.
| Capability | Vercel Cron Jobs | Vercel Schedules |
|---|---|---|
| Define recurring work | In app configuration | Through code at runtime |
| Change timing | Edit configuration and redeploy | Modify through code without redeploying |
| Cancel work | Update configuration and redeploy | Cancel through code |
| One-time schedules | Not described as part of the launch | Supported |
Schedules can run in any Vercel environment. That includes Preview, so scheduled work can be tested before it reaches production. The same system supports both static and dynamic triggers, and dynamic schedules can also be used through Eve.
The key change is that the task and its timing no longer have to move together. Developers can define what an application should do in code, then let the application or an agent control when that task runs. A user could request a one-off action, change a recurring time or cancel a future run without triggering another deployment.
This follows a run of platform updates covered in What Vercel Shipped in Late October 2026, with Schedules adding runtime task management to the deployment platform.
