Stripe Targets UK Businesses with Global Pricing and AI Commerce Tools
Stripe announced at Stripe Tour London a suite of updates designed to help UK businesses sell internationally and integrate commerce into AI interfaces. The company serves more than 1.5 million UK businesses and solopreneurs, from AI startups like ElevenLabs and Synthesia to established retailers like John Lewis & Partners.
The headline feature is Adaptive Pricing, which automatically adjusts prices for international customers based on local purchasing power and currency. According to Stripe, the tool drives an average 17.8 percent uplift in cross-border revenue. UK businesses can now sell in 195 countries through Stripe Managed Payments, with the platform handling indirect tax, disputes, and fraud on behalf of merchants.
Selling Inside AI Interfaces
Stripe introduced its Agentic Commerce Suite, allowing businesses to embed checkout flows directly into AI assistants like Gemini and Microsoft Copilot through a single integration. JD Sports Fashion and Wolf & Badger are already live with the feature in the US, with UK availability planned for later this year.
The move positions Stripe to capture commerce happening inside conversational interfaces, a growing category as AI agents handle more transactions. Stripe recently reported that AI traffic on its platform has surpassed human traffic, signaling a shift in how payments infrastructure needs to operate.
Key features of the Agentic Commerce Suite:
- Single API integration for multiple AI platforms
- Native checkout experience within AI conversations
- Fraud protection and compliance built in
- Support for recurring billing and subscriptions
Expanded Fraud Protection and Bank Partnership
Stripe Radar, the company's fraud prevention tool, now covers Bacs Direct Debit transactions and all local payment methods available in the UK. This extends machine learning-based fraud detection beyond card payments to bank transfers and alternative payment methods.
The company also announced a partnership with Lloyds Bank to bring Stripe's payments infrastructure to UK small businesses. Details on the partnership structure and rollout timeline were not disclosed, but the collaboration signals Stripe's intent to deepen its presence in the traditional banking sector.
Adaptive Pricing and Managed Payments address longstanding friction points for small businesses looking to expand internationally without the overhead of managing multi-currency pricing, tax compliance, and local payment methods. By bundling these functions into a merchant-of-record model, Stripe removes technical and regulatory barriers that typically require dedicated finance and legal resources.
AI Commerce as Infrastructure
The Agentic Commerce Suite reflects Stripe's broader bet on AI-native commerce infrastructure. As the company noted in recent updates, AI agents are becoming primary interfaces for transactions, not just search or support. Businesses that integrate checkout into these interfaces can capture demand at the point of conversation, rather than redirecting users to traditional web storefronts.
For UK businesses using tools like Bubble, Webflow, or Softr, the combination of Adaptive Pricing and AI commerce integrations could streamline international expansion and open new sales channels without requiring custom development.
Stripe did not disclose pricing changes or availability timelines for UK rollout of the Agentic Commerce Suite. Adaptive Pricing and Managed Payments are available now for UK accounts.
