Stripe Brings Stripe Data Pipeline Sync to Postgres

Stripe Data Pipeline can now sync real-time payment, customer and subscription data into a Postgres database. Applications can use that live Stripe data to manage feature access, fulfil orders and keep account details current.

The update connects Stripe records with the database behind an application. When the relevant payment, customer or subscription details are available in Stripe, Data Pipeline streams them to Postgres.

Stripe announced the Postgres connection in a LinkedIn post. Stripe describes Data Pipeline as its data-sync product and places it within the revenue section of its product range.

What Stripe Data Pipeline Sends to Postgres

The real-time sync covers three categories of Stripe data. These records support different actions inside an application.

Stripe dataApplication use named in the announcement
Payment detailsFulfil orders using live payment data
Customer detailsKeep account information current
Subscription detailsManage access to subscription features

This gives an application a Postgres copy of the relevant Stripe information. A product can refer to subscription details when deciding whether an account has access to a feature. An order workflow can use payment information for fulfilment. Account records can also stay aligned with current customer details.

The announcement focuses on operational workflows rather than reporting alone. The synced records are intended for use by the application itself, including access controls, order handling and customer account management.

Using Live Stripe Data Inside an Application

The database becomes the destination for payment, customer and subscription details streamed through Stripe Data Pipeline. The application can then use those records in the workflows described by Stripe.

For a subscription product, this could mean managing feature access from current subscription data. For commerce, the same connection can supply payment details used during order fulfilment. Customer information can feed the application’s account records so they remain current.

These uses all rely on the same change: Stripe data is synced to Postgres in real time, where the application can use it alongside its other database records.
