Netlify Removes Seat Limits Across All Plans to Open Platform Access

Netlify announced on LinkedIn that it has removed seat limits across all its plans. Teams can now add designers, product managers, marketers, and other collaborators without incurring additional charges.

The change addresses a common friction point in web development workflows: access control tied to billing. Under the previous model, teams often had to choose between paying for extra seats or funneling non-developer requests through bottlenecks. Netlify CEO Mathias Biilmann framed the move as part of a broader shift in how deployment platforms think about users, previously writing that the company is "pricing Netlify for 3 billion builders."

Who benefits from unlimited seats

The policy change is designed to expand who can interact with projects before and after they ship. Designers can preview work in staging environments without filing access requests. Product managers can check deploy previews directly. Marketing teams can publish updates without routing through engineering.

Netlify's post emphasizes the operational shift: "Not just developers. The designer who needs to preview before it ships. The PM who wants to check staging without filing a request. The marketer who should be able to publish without going through anyone."

This aligns with Netlify's recent focus on agent-driven workflows and broader platform access. The company has been building infrastructure for AI agents to deploy and manage sites autonomously, as previously covered, and removing seat limits is a logical extension of that strategy.

Pricing structure remains usage-based

While seats are now unlimited, Netlify still charges for usage metrics like bandwidth, build minutes, and function invocations. The company has not disclosed how many teams were previously constrained by seat limits or what the average seat count per team was before the change.

The timing coincides with a wave of product updates from Netlify, including the launch of Netlify Database with integrated Postgres and a new Stripe Projects integration that allows developers to deploy full-stack apps from a single prompt. The company is also positioning itself as a platform for AI-driven development, with features like Agent Runners and AI Gateway support for models including OpenAI's GPT-5.5 Instant.

Competitive context

The move puts pressure on competitors like Vercel and Railway, which still tie pricing to seat counts on certain plans. Vercel's Pro plan, for example, charges per seat beyond a base allocation. Netlify's decision to remove seat limits entirely could force a broader industry repricing.

For teams that previously hit seat limits or avoided inviting non-technical collaborators to save costs, the change is immediate. Existing plans are automatically updated with unlimited seats at no additional charge.
