MailerLite announced on LinkedIn that it has launched three new e-commerce automation triggers designed to recover lost sales and re-engage repeat customers. The update targets a common gap in the customer journey: shoppers who add items to their cart or reach checkout but never complete their purchase.
The release includes abandoned cart triggers, which fire when shoppers add items but don't proceed to checkout, and abandoned checkout triggers, which activate when users begin the checkout process but leave before completing it. A third trigger, purchase frequency, automatically segments and re-engages customers based on how often they buy.
All three triggers are now available across WooCommerce, BigCommerce, PrestaShop, Wix, Shoper, and MailerLite's API. The company positioned the update as closing the funnel gap, a term that refers to the space between a user expressing intent and completing a transaction.
Why This Matters for Small E-commerce Stores
Abandoned cart automation is a staple of modern e-commerce marketing, but many email platforms charge premium prices for the feature or lock it behind enterprise tiers. MailerLite's decision to roll this out across six integrations, including direct API support, makes it accessible to smaller stores that may not have engineering resources or large marketing budgets.
The distinction between abandoned cart and abandoned checkout is subtle but important. Cart abandonment captures users who browse and add items but never initiate payment, often because they're comparison shopping or waiting for a discount. Checkout abandonment, on the other hand, targets users who entered their details and got cold feet at the last step, frequently due to unexpected shipping costs, payment friction, or security concerns. By splitting these into separate triggers, MailerLite allows stores to craft more targeted messaging for each scenario.
Purchase frequency adds another layer. Instead of treating all customers the same, stores can now automatically identify repeat buyers and send tailored campaigns, whether that's a loyalty reward, early access to new products, or a re-engagement email after a period of inactivity.
How It Fits Into MailerLite's Automation Strategy
This update builds on MailerLite's existing automation toolkit, which already includes workflow builders and behavioral triggers. The platform has been steadily expanding its e-commerce capabilities over the past year, adding features like product blocks in emails and tighter integration with storefront platforms.
The timing aligns with broader trends in the email marketing space. Competitors like ConvertKit and Mailchimp have pushed hard into e-commerce automation, and MailerLite's move signals an intent to compete on functionality without inflating pricing. The company has historically positioned itself as a simpler, more affordable alternative to enterprise tools, and this release stays true to that positioning.
For store owners using Zapier or Make to stitch together cart recovery flows, the native triggers eliminate the need for middleware. That's one less subscription and one less point of failure.
The update is live now in user dashboards. MailerLite did not specify whether the triggers are available on all pricing tiers or limited to paid plans.
