Four founders without computer science degrees built a native mobile app that matches rescue dogs with adopters, cutting shelter onboarding time from hours to 20 minutes.
Clover Dogs, featured in a LinkedIn post by Bubble, was created by Alexis McNeal, Julian Reeves, Emily Bennington, and Lucas Bennington at Codi Technologies using Bubble's native mobile capabilities. The app applies dating-app mechanics to dog adoption: it scores compatibility between dogs and potential adopters, then uses AI agents to streamline shelter intake processes.
The premise is personal. McNeal and Reeves met on Hinge, and the team wondered if the same matching algorithm could work for dogs. The result is an app that brings data-driven matchmaking to animal rescue, a sector that has historically relied on manual processes and gut instinct.
Native Mobile Without Code
Clover Dogs represents a category of apps that would traditionally require mobile developers, backend engineers, and months of build time. The team instead used Bubble's visual development platform to ship a native iOS and Android app without writing traditional code.
Bubble launched Mobile Quickstart earlier this year, targeting exactly this use case: small teams with domain expertise but no engineering background. The platform handles database design, API integrations, UI logic, and deployment to app stores through a visual interface.
The four-person team designed the matching algorithm, integrated AI for shelter workflows, and shipped to production. No bootcamp required.
AI Agents Cut Shelter Admin Time
The AI component addresses a real bottleneck. Shelters spend hours per dog on intake paperwork: medical history, behavioral assessments, adoption requirements. Clover Dogs uses AI agents to parse documents, extract structured data, and populate profiles automatically.
According to the LinkedIn post, this reduces onboarding from several hours to roughly 20 minutes. That's time shelter staff can spend on care instead of data entry, and it means dogs get listed faster.
The matching algorithm scores adopter-dog fit based on lifestyle, experience, housing, and the dog's needs. It's not unlike how Hinge suggests compatible profiles, except the stakes involve a decade-plus commitment and a living creature.
No-Code Mobile Is Production-Ready
The Clover Dogs story is part of Bubble's broader push to prove that native mobile apps don't require traditional development teams. The company has been doubling down on mobile: generating API connector calls from plain language, launching global expressions to sync app logic, and rolling out tools to help builders go from idea to app store.
Whether Clover Dogs scales beyond early adopters will depend on user traction and shelter partnerships, but the technical proof point is clear: a team with no CS degrees shipped a consumer-grade mobile app with real AI functionality. That's the promise of no-code hitting production.
More details on the build and the founders' approach are available in Bubble's blog post covering Clover Dogs alongside other mobile-first startups.
