Beehiiv Launches Automations v4 With A/B Testing and Multi-Branch Logic
Beehiiv released Automations v4, a significant upgrade to its email automation capabilities that adds experimentation tools and advanced branching logic previously found only in dedicated marketing automation platforms.
The update introduces A/B testing directly within automation workflows, allowing newsletter operators to test subject lines, content variations, and send times without exporting data or switching tools. Publishers can now split subscribers into random cohorts for controlled experiments and create multi-path branches based on user behavior, engagement metrics, or custom triggers.
Advanced Branching and Workflow Control
The new version supports multi-split branches, letting users create complex decision trees within a single automation. A welcome sequence might branch subscribers into different paths based on which link they clicked, their open rate over the first three emails, or their signup source.
Random cohort branching enables true experimentation. Publishers can split their audience into control and test groups, measure performance across different approaches, and identify which strategies drive the most engagement or conversions. Previously, this required manual segmentation or third-party tools.
Beehiiv also added branch reconnection, addressing a common workflow limitation. After subscribers diverge into separate paths based on their behavior, they can now rejoin a main sequence at designated points. This prevents duplicate content or fractured user experiences while maintaining the flexibility of conditional logic.
Drag-and-Drop Builder and Bulk Actions
The interface now uses a drag-and-drop editor for building automations, replacing the previous linear setup. Users can visualize entire workflows on a single canvas, making it easier to spot bottlenecks, redundancies, or gaps in logic.
Bulk actions let publishers modify multiple steps simultaneously. Changing a delay across ten email sequences or updating UTM parameters across an entire campaign no longer requires editing each step individually.
End-to-End Analytics and Performance Tracking
Automations v4 includes what Beehiiv calls "advanced analytics" with visibility into every step of a workflow. Publishers can see where subscribers drop off, which branches convert best, and how long users spend in each stage of an automation.
The analytics layer tracks performance metrics for A/B tests, random cohort experiments, and multi-path workflows. This gives operators data to optimize sequences without exporting CSV files or building dashboards in external tools like PostHog or Airtable.

Beehiiv's founder Tyler Denk announced the release on LinkedIn, positioning it as a way to consolidate workflows that typically require platforms like Zapier or Make alongside email tools. The company has been expanding beyond basic newsletter delivery, recently adding webinars, metered paywalls, and podcast hosting.
Competing With Dedicated Automation Platforms
The update puts Beehiiv closer to feature parity with platforms like ConvertKit and Mailchimp, which have offered advanced automation for years. A/B testing and multi-branch logic have been standard in enterprise email platforms, but Beehiiv is packaging them into a tool designed specifically for newsletter publishers rather than broader marketing teams.
For operators already using Beehiiv, the new version consolidates workflows that previously required stitching together multiple tools. Random cohort testing, in particular, addresses a gap that forced many publishers to export subscriber lists, manually create segments, and track results in spreadsheets.
Automations v4 is available now to all Beehiiv users. Pricing details were not disclosed in the announcement.
