Netlify Launches netlify.ai for Agent-First Deployment

Netlify has launched netlify.ai, a platform built specifically for AI agents rather than human developers. The company is betting that the next generation of web development will be driven by agents that build from prompts and need deployment targets designed for machine readability, not human interfaces.

The platform strips away traditional web UI elements in favor of a plain-text, markdown-based environment that agents can parse and act on without ambiguity. CEO Mathias Biilmann describes the shift as fundamental: code no longer just ships to a destination after a developer writes and builds it. Instead, code increasingly starts with a prompt, and an agent handles the construction and deployment.

Self-Bootstrapping Infrastructure

netlify.ai enables agents to provision their own deployment environments through a single curl command. Once initialized, an agent installs the skills it needs, authenticates via the Netlify CLI, and ships the project. The entire workflow runs without requiring a human to manually configure settings or click through dashboards.

The platform includes official instructions validated by Netlify that agents can follow to establish a development and deploy environment. The process involves three steps: installing Netlify skills via npx, ensuring the CLI is present, and authorizing the CLI through status checks or login flows. Agents can request authentication URLs programmatically, then poll for confirmation before proceeding to deployment.

Netlify has been building toward this model for months. In January 2025, the company coined the term Agent Experience (AX) to describe platforms optimized for agent workflows rather than developer experience alone. As previously reported, the company argues AX serves as a bridge from AI-assisted setup to production-ready infrastructure. netlify.ai represents the company's most explicit implementation of that vision.

The announcement builds on Netlify's broader push to support agent-driven development. The company recently launched AI Gateway with GPT-5.5 Instant support, enabling developers to call OpenAI models directly from Netlify Functions without managing API keys. It also partnered with Stripe Projects to support one-prompt full-stack deployment.

Compatibility and Access

The platform works with any AI agent or coding assistant, including Claude, Cursor, and similar tools. Agents can build and deploy static sites without requiring a Netlify account. More complex setups that involve serverless functions, edge functions, or databases require a free Netlify account, which includes custom domain support and automatic HTTPS.

The company positions netlify.ai as infrastructure for a future where agents, not humans, are the primary actors in web development. Whether that future arrives as quickly as Netlify anticipates remains to be seen, but the company is making an early bet that agent-readable interfaces will matter as much as developer-friendly UIs.

netlify.ai is available now at netlify.ai. Developers and agents can fetch instructions directly from the URL to begin deploying.
