Make Adds Undo and Redo to Visual Automation Builder
Make has rolled out undo and redo functionality across its scenario builder, allowing users to reverse or reapply changes made to automation workflows. The feature, announced on LinkedIn, is available on all plans and covers both canvas-level operations and individual field edits.
Users can now undo or redo changes including adding or removing modules, editing connections and routes, repositioning modules on the canvas, modifying field mapping and text inside module setup, and reverting scenario scheduling edits. The feature works via toolbar buttons or standard keyboard shortcuts: Cmd+Z for undo, Cmd+Shift+Z or Cmd+Y for redo.
The addition addresses a longstanding pain point in visual automation builders, where a single misclick or accidental deletion could mean rebuilding complex branches by hand. Make's implementation spans both high-level canvas operations and granular field-level changes, eliminating the need for manual backup copies or version control workarounds.
Impact on Workflow Development
For teams building production automations, the feature reduces the friction of experimentation. Users can test alternative routing logic, swap modules, or adjust field mappings without the risk of losing their current configuration. If a change breaks the workflow or doesn't perform as expected, reverting is immediate.
Make positions the update as a way to support faster iteration, particularly for users who prototype multiple versions of a scenario before committing to a final design. The company notes that the feature covers changes across the entire scenario builder interface, not just module placement, which means edits to scheduling settings and conditional logic can also be reversed.
The update follows Make's recent focus on improving the builder experience, including nested if-else logic and streamlined onboarding. By extending undo and redo to all plan tiers, the company avoids gating a core usability feature behind higher pricing, a move that contrasts with how some platforms tier advanced functionality.
Make competes directly with Zapier and n8n in the workflow automation space, where differences in editor capabilities and user experience often determine platform adoption. Undo and redo may seem like table stakes for a visual builder, but the feature's absence has historically been a source of user frustration across the category. Its availability at no additional cost positions Make as a more forgiving environment for iterative development, particularly for users who are still learning automation logic or working with complex multi-step scenarios.
