Discord Launches Nitro Rewards With Xbox Game Pass and Hardware Discounts

Discord has announced on LinkedIn the launch of Nitro Rewards, a new benefits program that extends its premium Nitro membership beyond Discord-specific features. The program brings perks from major gaming brands directly into Nitro subscriptions at no additional cost, starting with partnerships with Xbox, Logitech, and SteelSeries.

The rollout marks a strategic shift for Discord's nearly decade-old Nitro offering. Rather than just enhancing in-app experiences, Nitro Rewards positions the subscription as a broader gaming lifestyle membership that covers how players communicate, what they play, and the hardware they use.

What's Included

Nitro members now receive access to Xbox Game Pass perks, including a library of over 50 games across PC and Xbox platforms. Members also get 10 hours of cloud gaming each month and can earn up to $25 annually in Xbox Store Rewards. The gaming catalog and cloud streaming give Nitro subscribers a substantial gaming library without requiring separate purchases or subscriptions.

The program also includes exclusive hardware discounts from Logitech G and SteelSeries, two of the most recognized names in gaming peripherals. Discord has not disclosed specific discount percentages, but positioned the deals as "special pricing" on gear ranging from headsets to keyboards and mice.

Following Discord's introduction of Orbs as a virtual currency earlier this year, Nitro Rewards adds automatic Orbs distribution. Members receive 250 Orbs monthly and earn 20% more Orbs when completing Quests, Discord's engagement-based reward system. These Orbs can be redeemed for in-app rewards and cosmetics.

Timing and Context

The launch comes as Discord's Nitro subscription nears its 10-year anniversary. The company has steadily expanded Nitro's feature set over the years, adding custom emojis, profile badges, higher upload limits, and HD streaming. Nitro Rewards represents the first major move beyond Discord-native features into third-party gaming products and services.

Discord has been deepening its gaming ecosystem in other ways. The company recently launched a free Social SDK that lets developers integrate Discord voice chat and social features directly into their games. It has also partnered with game developers to enable in-app purchases for games like Rust, turning Discord into a commerce platform alongside its communication tools.

Nitro Rewards extends that strategy by bundling value from external partners. For Discord, it's a retention play: subscribers get tangible gaming benefits that extend beyond server perks. For partners like Xbox and Logitech, it's distribution to Discord's massive user base of gamers and community builders.

What's Next

Discord indicated this is "just the beginning" for Nitro Rewards and that more partners will be added to the program. The company has not provided specifics on upcoming brands or categories but framed the initial launch partners as foundational to the gaming lifestyle: content (Xbox), hardware (Logitech, SteelSeries), and in-app engagement (Orbs).

Nitro pricing remains unchanged. Standard Nitro costs $9.99 per month or $99.99 annually, while Nitro Basic (a lighter tier without server boosting perks) is priced at $2.99 per month. The addition of Xbox Game Pass access alone represents significant value, as standalone Xbox Game Pass for PC typically costs $11.99 per month.

Full details on Nitro Rewards are available on Discord's official blog. Existing Nitro members should see the new benefits reflected in their accounts immediately, while new subscribers gain access upon signing up.
