Buildship is hosting a hands-on workshop that demonstrates how to build Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers using its visual workflow builder. The session, conducted in partnership with MongoDB, shows product managers and support teams how to connect AI agents with backend data sources and customer profiles.
The workshop focuses on what Buildship calls "vibe-coding," a visual approach to building AI workflows using natural language. Participants learn to create MCP servers that bridge Claude desktop agents with MongoDB databases and Stripe customer data. The goal is to enable non-technical teams to launch internal AI tools that can resolve customer issues in seconds rather than minutes or hours.
Why MCP Servers Matter for AI Agents
MCP servers act as standardized connectors between AI agents and external data sources. Without them, agents operate in isolation, unable to access real-time customer information, transaction histories, or product databases. The Model Context Protocol, introduced by Anthropic, provides a common interface for AI systems to securely query and interact with multiple data sources.
Buildship's approach removes much of the traditional backend coding required to build these servers. Instead of writing API endpoints and authentication logic manually, teams use a canvas interface to wire together data sources, define access permissions, and deploy production-ready servers.
The workshop demonstrates a practical scenario: a support agent using Claude to pull customer purchase history from Stripe, check order status in MongoDB, and generate personalized responses, all through natural language queries. This type of integration typically requires engineering resources to build and maintain custom APIs.
From Workshop to Production
The session is led by Harini Janakiraman, Buildship's cofounder and CEO, who previously served as VP of Engineering at BlackRock and Head of Technology at an early-stage venture firm. Her background in large-scale data products informs Buildship's focus on security and production readiness, particularly around credential management and data access controls.
Buildship has been expanding its library of pre-built AI workflows in recent months. The platform previously launched a collection of marketing automation templates and introduced tools for voice survey agents and Reddit monitoring. This workshop represents a shift toward more technical infrastructure work, targeting teams that need secure, scalable connections between AI agents and enterprise data.
The workshop is available on MongoDB's YouTube channel. Buildship offers a free tier for teams testing AI workflow integrations, with production deployments requiring paid plans based on API call volume and data processing requirements.
