PostHog Launches Self-Driving Mode, Shifts From Analytics to Automated Code Fixes

PostHog has entered open beta with Self-driving, a feature that marks the company's pivot from passive analytics to autonomous problem-solving. Instead of surfacing issues for developers to fix manually, the platform now automatically collects product signals and generates pull requests to address bugs and user experience problems.

The move represents a fundamental shift in positioning. PostHog co-founder James Hawkins described the company as evolving from "a helping you find problems" product to one that "fixes them for you."

How Self-Driving Works

Self-driving automatically collects comprehensive product data: events, errors, session recordings, and logs. The system analyzes this data to identify what users actually need and where problems exist. When it identifies an actionable issue, it drafts a pull request with proposed fixes.

Right now, the "fix it" capability is limited to opening PRs. PostHog plans to expand the range of automated actions over time, though specifics weren't disclosed.

Access to the feature is tied to a new Inbox UI. Users who see the Inbox interface already have Self-driving enabled. The gradual rollout reflects the experimental nature of the product, with both UI and pricing still being refined.

The launch follows PostHog's broader push into automation, as we previously covered when the company shipped early self-driving agents alongside its Slack app.

From Analysis to Action

Hawkins positioned the shift as a broader lesson for founders: "Entirely complete jobs for your customers instead of partly solving things." For PostHog, that means fixing bugs and UX problems rather than highlighting them on a dashboard.

The company reported "meaningful usage" within the first week of open beta, though specific metrics weren't shared. Documentation for Self-driving is available on PostHog's docs site, and the feature is being refined based on early feedback from beta users.

PostHog continues to offer its core analytics features alongside Self-driving, including feature flags, session replay, and product analytics. The company recently rewrote its feature flag service in Rust, cutting resource usage by 95 percent.

The beta is open now for existing PostHog users, with broader availability expected as the product matures. Pricing and feature details remain experimental and subject to change.
