PostHog Launches Replay Vision to Auto-Analyze Session Recordings With AI

PostHog has opened a waitlist for Replay Vision, a new AI-powered feature that automatically watches and analyzes session recordings to help product teams investigate issues faster.

The feature addresses a common pain point for teams using session replay tools: manually reviewing hundreds or thousands of recordings to find relevant user behavior. Replay Vision applies AI to flag bugs, score user frustration levels, tag specific behaviors, and generate summaries of what happened during each session.

PostHog announced the feature on LinkedIn, positioning it as a way to reduce the exhaustion of watching recordings one by one. The company is currently collecting signups for early access through a waitlist.

How It Works

Replay Vision builds on PostHog's existing session replay infrastructure to add an automated analysis layer. When a session recording is captured, the AI system watches it and generates metadata that product teams can use to filter and prioritize which sessions to review manually.

The system tags sessions with specific behaviors, making it easier to find recordings that match particular user flows or interaction patterns. It also assigns frustration scores to help teams surface sessions where users struggled or encountered problems.

Bug detection happens automatically as well. Replay Vision flags potential technical issues it observes during playback, such as broken UI elements, unresponsive interactions, or error states.

Summaries provide a text overview of what occurred during each session, giving teams a quick way to scan multiple recordings without watching full playback.

Context for Product Teams

PostHog has been adding AI capabilities across its platform in recent months. The company previously launched self-driving agents that can draft pull requests based on analytics insights, and has been experimenting with AI prompts to understand how users discover their product.

Replay Vision represents a different application of AI, focused on reducing manual work in the investigation workflow rather than generating code or insights. Session replay tools have become standard in product analytics, but review bottlenecks limit their usefulness for larger teams or products with high traffic.

By automating the initial review pass, PostHog aims to make session replay more scalable. Teams can filter recordings by AI-generated tags or frustration scores rather than sampling randomly or relying on manual filters based on user properties or events.

The feature could be particularly useful for support teams triaging user reports, product managers investigating drop-off points, and developers debugging issues reported through support channels.

Availability

PostHog has not announced general availability timing or pricing details. The company is currently collecting emails through a waitlist form linked in their announcement.

Teams interested in testing Replay Vision can join the waitlist through the LinkedIn post. PostHog typically rolls out new features first to its cloud customers before bringing them to self-hosted deployments.

The open-source analytics platform competes with tools like Mixpanel and Amplitude in the product analytics space. Session replay is also offered by dedicated tools like LogRocket and FullStory, though those products have not announced comparable AI analysis features publicly.

PostHog's approach of building AI analysis directly into their session replay product may give them an edge for teams already using their platform, since the analysis layer integrates with their existing analytics data and user properties.
