MailerLite Adds Block-Level Template Saving to Speed Up Email Design
MailerLite rolled out a feature that lets users save individual content blocks as templates, addressing a common friction point in email design workflows. Instead of copying entire email templates or manually rebuilding repeated sections like footers, headers, and email signatures, users can now save and reuse specific blocks across campaigns.
The feature, announced on LinkedIn as part of the company's "Lite hacks" series, targets teams and solo marketers who frequently use the same design elements across multiple campaigns. The workflow is straightforward: design a block once, save it as a template, and drop it into any future email without starting from scratch.
For context, MailerLite has been steadily improving its email builder with incremental updates. The platform recently added mobile view customization controls to its landing page builder, showing a broader focus on design flexibility across its product suite.
How Block Templates Work
The update doesn't introduce a new editor interface. Instead, it expands the existing template system to work at the block level rather than only at the full-email level. Users can save any block they've designed, whether it's a branded footer with social icons and legal text, a signature block for the sender, or a recurring promotional banner.
Once saved, these blocks appear in the template library alongside full email templates. When starting a new campaign, users can pull in saved blocks directly, avoiding the copy-paste workflow that often breaks formatting or requires manual adjustments. This is particularly useful for maintaining brand consistency across campaigns without enforcing a rigid template structure for every email.
The feature works with all block types in MailerLite's drag-and-drop editor, including text, images, buttons, and multi-column layouts. There's no limit on how many block templates a user can save, and blocks can be updated or deleted from the template library at any time.
Why This Matters for Small Teams
Email design bottlenecks often come from repetitive work rather than creative challenges. A small business owner sending weekly newsletters might spend five minutes rebuilding the same footer every time, or a marketer running seasonal campaigns might manually adjust a recurring header for each send.
Block-level templates reduce that friction without requiring users to adopt a more complex tool. Unlike Mailchimp or ConvertKit, which have long offered modular content blocks, MailerLite's approach integrates the feature into its existing workflow rather than introducing a separate content library or advanced editor mode.
For teams managing multiple brands or clients, the feature also simplifies handoffs. A designer can create a set of approved block templates that a marketer or founder can use without needing design skills or access to the original source files.
The update is live for all MailerLite users on both free and paid plans. The company shared additional workflow tips and "Lite hacks" on its blog, though the block template feature itself doesn't have a dedicated tutorial page yet.
