What to expect

Explore 3D spatial design, Blender-to-Unreal workflows and immersive world-building on 19 August 2026 at Platf9rm in Brighton.

XR Initiative’s monthly knowledge-sharing event returns with a two-hour special examining how real-time 3D technologies are changing architectural visualisation, virtual environment creation and spatial storytelling. Hosted by Bowen T. and two fellow organisers, the evening brings together two practitioners with distinct perspectives on building convincing virtual worlds.

Architecture from Blender to Unreal Engine

Andy Connacher is a real-time 3D artist who creates realistic architectural environments and virtual spaces using Blender and Unreal Engine. His work has received nominations for honours including the Royal Institute of British Architects Prize and the CHALK Architecture Prize.

Andy will introduce his Blender-to-Unreal Engine workflow and demonstrate how the two tools can support architectural visualisation and the production of immersive built environments. Expect a practical look at moving from 3D creation into a real-time engine, framed by Andy’s experience working across architecture and virtual space design.

Principles of virtual world-building

Rob Morgan is a multi-award-winning XR and immersive experience designer specialising in spatial storytelling and creative direction. Across more than 15 years, he has worked in VR, location-based VR, mixed reality, immersive theatre, galleries, libraries, archives, museums and theme parks. Projects he contributed to,including The Mona Lisa Heist and Spymaster, were selected for the Venice Immersive programme at the Venice International Film Festival.

Rob’s session will introduce principles for virtual world-building in games and immersive experiences, drawing attention to the creative and spatial decisions that shape how audiences understand and engage with a digital environment.
