AI and Machine Learning (Python) with Martin Jones

Birmingham · The Exchange

Hosted by CENTA

Build a simple AI and machine learning proof of concept with Python during this five-day research-focused workshop at The Exchange in Birmingham. Running from Monday 21 to Friday 25 September 2026, AI and Machine Learning (Python) with Martin Jones explores how Python can be used to create models for current or future research. Rather than treating artificial intelligence only as a theoretical subject, the course gives participants a practical goal: develop a simple model and turn it into their own proof of concept. What to expect Martin Jones will lead the workshop across five scheduled days, with the event listing showing sessions from 10:00am on Monday to 4:00pm on Friday. The programme is delivered in English and takes place in person at The Exchange, 3 Centenary Square, Birmingham. The workshop will focus on: - How Python can be applied to AI and machine learning - Building simple models for use in research - Exploring possible AI applications within current or future projects - Creating a practical proof-of-concept model The extended format offers an opportunity to concentrate on the model-building process rather than covering the subject in a single short talk. It is particularly relevant to researchers, students and other learners who want to move from general curiosity about AI towards practical experimentation. Who should attend? This course is designed for people who are curious about AI and want to understand how machine learning could support their research. It is not presented as a complete introduction to programming: previous coding experience is strongly recommended as a prerequisite. Experience in another language, including R, may help participants follow the Python-based material more easily. You do not need to arrive with an advanced machine learning background, but you should be comfortable with the basic ideas and processes involved in writing code. The emphasis is on learning how to construct a simple, usable model rather than on discussing AI solely at a conceptual level. Tickets and organiser… Register for this event
