Sheffield · Millennium Gallery

Hosted by Reach Studios

Future Ready Digital: North brings AI industry leadership, Google and Trustpilot to Sheffield for a focused day of digital transformation insights. Taking place on Friday 18 September 2026 at the Millennium Gallery in Sheffield, this exclusive one-day business event is built around one of the most pressing commercial questions: how can organisations prepare for an economy increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence? Organised by Reach Studios, the event brings together a hand-picked group of AI industry leaders and commercial partners. Google and Trustpilot are among the headline names, giving attendees an opportunity to hear perspectives connected to major technology and digital trust platforms while exploring what AI-led change means for modern businesses. What to expect Future Ready Digital: North is positioned as a concentrated day of AI and digital transformation discussion rather than a broad technology expo. Its focus includes: - AI industry leadership and the direction of commercial technology - Digital transformation and how businesses can become future-ready - Perspectives involving Google and Trustpilot - Connections between selected AI leaders and commercial partners - The growing role of artificial intelligence in business strategy The one-day format offers a dedicated setting for understanding emerging developments, considering their commercial relevance and connecting with others working around AI-driven change. Its curated approach is a key part of the event: participants are being brought together specifically around leadership, partnership and the business impact of AI. Who should attend? The event is particularly relevant to business leaders, decision-makers and commercial teams interested in digital transformation and the strategic implications of AI. It should also appeal to people responsible for shaping how their organisations respond to new technology, as well as those seeking insight into the priorities of prominent digital companies and AI industry figures.… Register for this event

Sheffield · Sheffield Hallam University Owen Building

Hosted by Front End Sheffield

Explore AI-assisted coding with Claude Code and rethink how Web Components can underpin frameworks at this free Front End Sheffield meetup on 24 September 2026. Front End Sheffield brings web designers and developers together at Sheffield Hallam University for two focused talks spanning agent experience, front-end architecture and the changing relationship between standards and frameworks. Held in Room 942 of the Owen Building in Sheffield, the evening combines practical ideas, technical discussion, an open mic and time to meet other members of the local web community. Two perspectives on modern development Richard Oliver Bray, “Agent Experience: Building apps agents want to use” Richard will share the AI tools and coding techniques that work for him, with a particular focus on Claude Code. The talk will condense his experience into an account of how developers can approach building applications that work effectively with agents. It should be especially relevant to anyone exploring AI-assisted coding or thinking beyond conventional user experience towards the needs of software agents. Hayleigh Thompson, “Web Components can work for frameworks too” Hayleigh will examine the long-running tension between Web Components and frameworks. Framework authors have argued that Web Components offer a poor abstraction on which to build, while advocates of the web platform emphasise interoperability and reduced framework dependency. This talk asks whether Web Components could become a strong framework foundation if the industry reconsidered what a “component” means, and whether developers need components as often as they think. Running order - 6:15pm: Doors open and attendee sign-in - 6:30pm: Welcome - 6:40pm: Talks begin - 7:30pm: Open mic - 7:40pm: Social The post-meetup social location is still to be announced. The scheduled event runs until 8:15pm.… Register for this event

Sheffield · Inox, Students' Union Building

AI for Research Day 2026 brings practical AI insights, hands-on workshops and cross-disciplinary networking to University of Sheffield researchers on 1 October. Taking place from 9:00am to 4:30pm at INOX in the Students’ Union Building, this one-day conference explores AI for Research That Matters. Led by the Centre for Machine Intelligence, it will show how researchers across different disciplines are already putting artificial intelligence to work, and help attendees identify where AI could fit into their own projects. What to expect The day combines strategic perspectives, real research examples and practical learning: - Morning sessions: keynote talks, a panel discussion and presentations from University of Sheffield researchers alongside industry experts from Dell and NVIDIA. - Afternoon workshops: hands-on, interactive sessions offering a practical starting point for applying AI tools and techniques within research. - Networking: dedicated opportunities to meet researchers from across the disciplines and connect with the University’s research support community. Rather than focusing only on theory, the programme is designed to give attendees a clearer sense of how AI can support their work and the practical experience needed to take a next step. The mix of talks, discussion and workshops also creates space to examine AI from multiple disciplinary perspectives. Who should attend? The event is open to all University of Sheffield researchers, including postgraduate researchers, early-career researchers and established academics, as well as Professional Services colleagues. It is particularly relevant to people who are curious about AI but have not yet incorporated it into their research. Researchers already using AI tools and methods will also find opportunities to learn from peers, hear industry perspectives and make new connections. The conference will be held at INOX, Students’ Union, University of Sheffield, Western Bank, Sheffield, S10 2TG. Researchers who would like to share their work can also submit a talk proposal for consideration. View the event details and register to attend
