Vercel: Free domain for one year, now for all Pro teams

Vercel is extending its one-year free domain offer to every Pro team, removing the previous restriction that limited the benefit to new Pro subscriptions. Existing customers can now claim the same perk, although the choice of domain extensions remains limited and standard renewal charges apply after the first year.

The company announced the expanded offer on August 12. It covers one eligible domain per Pro team, rather than one domain for each member or project within that team.

That distinction matters for agencies, startup teams and small businesses managing several deployments under one account. The benefit can reduce the initial cost of putting a new product, campaign or storefront online, but it is not a blanket allowance for every website hosted by the team.

Six domain extensions are included

Pro teams can select an available domain using one of six top-level domains:

  • .online
  • .site
  • .space
  • .store
  • .tech
  • .website

The offer does not extend to every domain sold through Vercel. In particular, the announcement does not list widely used extensions such as .com, .org or country-specific domains. Teams will therefore need to balance the first-year saving against whether one of the supported extensions fits their brand.

Availability also remains a factor. A preferred name must be eligible and available within one of the six included extensions when the team claims it. Vercel directs customers to its domains page to search for and register a qualifying address.

For builders already deploying through Vercel, registering the domain in the same platform can simplify the operational side of launching a site. Deployment and domain management sit within the same account, reducing the need to purchase a domain elsewhere and then configure it separately. The update is narrower than Vercel’s recent developer tooling releases, such as its one-click upgrade for deprecated Node.js versions, but it addresses a common launch expense directly.

Renewal is automatic after the free year

The domain is free only for its first year. After that period, Vercel says it will renew automatically at the regular price displayed during checkout when the domain is claimed. The announcement does not provide a single renewal price, so teams should review the checkout figure for the specific extension before completing registration.

Automatic renewal is useful for avoiding an accidental lapse, but it also turns the perk into a recurring cost unless the team changes its renewal settings or otherwise manages the registration before the renewal date. Businesses should record the expected renewal amount and date as part of their domain management process, particularly if the address is being used for customer email, payments or a public product launch.

The main change is eligibility. Vercel had previously made the free first year available to teams starting a new Pro subscription. Its expanded policy now gives existing Pro teams access as well, creating more consistent treatment across the paid tier.

Pro teams can claim the benefit through Vercel Domains. Vercel’s free domain documentation contains the full terms and should be checked for eligibility details before registration.

Frequently asked questions

What is Vercel Free domain for one year, now for all Pro teams?

It is a Pro plan benefit that lets each eligible Vercel team claim one domain without paying the registration cost for its first year. The offer, previously associated with new Pro subscriptions, is now also available to existing Pro teams.

Which domain extensions qualify for the offer?

The eligible extensions are .online, .site, .space, .store, .tech and .website. The offer applies to one eligible, available domain per team and does not cover every extension sold through Vercel.

What happens after the free year ends?

The domain renews automatically at the regular price shown during checkout when it is claimed. Vercel has not specified one universal renewal price in the announcement, so teams should check the amount for their selected domain before registering it.
