Vercel Expands Vercel Connect With Managed Microsoft Integration

Vercel is making it easier for developers to connect applications and AI agents to Microsoft services without configuring a Microsoft Entra application or handling client secrets themselves.

The company’s new managed Microsoft connector for Vercel Connect gives projects access to products including Teams and OneDrive. According to the official changelog, Vercel registers the required Entra application, configures federated credentials and handles the groundwork needed to issue delegated and application tokens.

That removes a potentially awkward layer of identity infrastructure from Microsoft-connected applications. Teams still need to authorize the application for their Microsoft tenant, but they can then attach the connector to the Vercel projects and environments that require access.

Microsoft Access Without Manual App Registration

Connecting an application to Microsoft services typically requires developers or administrators to create an app registration in Entra, select permissions, configure credentials and securely store any client secrets. Those steps are manageable for experienced cloud teams, but they introduce administrative overhead and another set of credentials that must be protected and maintained.

Vercel Connect’s managed connector changes the division of responsibility. Vercel handles the app registration and federated credential configuration, while the customer authorizes access to its Microsoft tenant and decides which projects and environments receive the connector.

The setup has several practical components:

  • Managed Entra registration: Vercel creates and configures the Microsoft identity application.
  • No customer-managed client secret: Federated credentials replace the need to create and store a conventional secret.
  • Tenant-level authorization: An organization approves the application for its Microsoft tenant once.
  • Scoped attachment: Teams choose which Vercel projects and environments can use the connection.
  • Microsoft tokens: The connector can mint delegated and application tokens, supporting access performed for a user or by an application itself.

Developers can create the connector through the Vercel dashboard or the Vercel CLI documentation. Vercel also provides a dedicated Microsoft connector page, although the announcement does not specify plan requirements or separate connector pricing.

Why It Matters for Apps and Agents

The update is especially relevant to builders creating internal tools, workflow applications and AI agents that need to operate inside an organization’s Microsoft environment. An agent might need to retrieve a file from OneDrive or interact with Teams, for example. Vercel’s announcement says the connector can access Microsoft products broadly, but it specifically names Teams and OneDrive rather than publishing a complete list of supported services and permissions.

For small teams, the main benefit is not a new Microsoft API. It is a shorter, more standardized path to authentication. Removing manual secret management can reduce setup time and limit the risk associated with long-lived credentials, although administrators must still review the access being requested and govern where the connector is attached.

The Microsoft addition also shows Vercel building Connect as part of a broader application and agent platform, rather than treating deployment as its only role. The company has recently moved deeper into workplace workflows through Vercel Agent’s production-aware actions in Slack, while separately expanding its integration catalog through the Algolia Marketplace launch.

The important distinction is that this Microsoft integration is a Vercel Managed Connector. Vercel takes responsibility for more of the identity configuration than a basic API integration would, but the customer retains control over tenant authorization and project-level use. That balance could make Microsoft-connected projects quicker to launch without bypassing organizational approval.

Frequently asked questions

What is Vercel Connect?

Vercel Connect is a Vercel service that lets applications and agents access external products through connectors. Its managed Microsoft connector handles Entra app registration and federated credentials, then allows an authorized connection to be attached to selected projects and environments.

Which Microsoft services does the connector support?

Vercel says the connector can access Microsoft products and specifically identifies Teams and OneDrive. The announcement does not provide a complete service or permission list, so teams should check the connector documentation for the access required by their application.

How can developers create the Microsoft connector?

A connector can be created from the Vercel dashboard or with the Vercel CLI. A Microsoft tenant administrator must authorize the application, after which the connector can be assigned to the projects and environments that need it.
