Vercel AI Gateway Lands on AWS Marketplace for Easier Procurement

Vercel is bringing AI model procurement into a channel many businesses already use. As of August 5, 2026, teams can purchase AI Gateway through AWS Marketplace, putting the service on their existing AWS bill instead of introducing a separate purchasing process.

The move does not fundamentally change AI Gateway itself. It changes how organizations can buy it, which may be more consequential for companies where vendor approval, annual contracts and consolidated cloud spending slow down the adoption of new infrastructure.

One Contract Path, Hundreds of Models

According to Vercel’s official changelog announcement, AWS Marketplace purchases are available as private offers with annual contract terms. Usage beyond the contracted amount is billed on a usage-based basis.

For finance and engineering teams, that creates a few practical benefits:

  • AI Gateway spending can appear on the organization’s existing AWS bill.
  • Teams can use established AWS procurement and vendor-management processes.
  • Annual commitments can be negotiated through private offers.
  • Additional usage remains available beyond the contracted amount.

Vercel says buying through AWS Marketplace does not change the per-token price. Customers continue to pay provider pricing with no markup, an important distinction for applications generating large or unpredictable volumes of inference traffic.

The announcement does not say that customers must move their applications to AWS, or that AI Gateway’s underlying inference architecture has changed. The Marketplace listing is primarily a commercial and procurement option, rather than a new deployment model.

What AI Gateway Provides

AI Gateway gives developers a single API endpoint for accessing hundreds of AI models. Instead of maintaining separate integrations, credentials and request formats for each model provider, a team can route model calls through one interface.

Vercel also builds operational controls into that layer. The company highlights automatic fallbacks, regional inference, cost controls and governance capabilities, including Zero Data Retention. Automatic fallbacks can help applications continue operating when a chosen model or provider is unavailable, while regional inference gives teams more control over where requests are processed.

That positioning makes AI Gateway relevant to more than applications hosted on Vercel. Small software teams can use the gateway to reduce the integration work involved in testing models or changing providers. Larger organizations may place greater value on centralized governance and purchasing.

The AWS Marketplace launch also follows a broader expansion of the product’s model and agent ecosystem. Vercel recently added Grok Imagine Image 2.0 to AI Gateway, while a separate integration made AI Gateway and Vercel Sandbox available on Hermes Agent.

For builders, the immediate decision is straightforward. Teams already committed to AWS procurement can now evaluate AI Gateway without setting up an entirely separate billing relationship. Organizations that do not need annual contracts or consolidated AWS billing can continue assessing the service through Vercel’s existing channels.
