Tally Forms announced on LinkedIn this week that it now lets users attach a PDF copy of a respondent's submitted answers to the automated email notification sent after form submission. The feature is designed to replace generic no-reply messages with a more personalized, useful confirmation that doubles as a record for both the submitter and the form owner.
How It Works
Users can enable the PDF attachment under "respondent email notifications" in the form settings. Once toggled on, every respondent who completes the form receives an email that includes a polished PDF summarizing their answers. The announcement emphasized that the notification can be customized with a whimsical subject line, a real thank you message, and guidance on what happens next, rather than a robotic "your submission has been received" template.
The feature is particularly useful for forms that require a follow-up paper trail: intake forms, event registrations, or multi-step applications. Respondents get instant proof of what they submitted without needing to log into a dashboard or request a copy. For form owners, it reduces support requests and keeps respondents engaged with a more human-sounding touchpoint.
Context and Recent Moves
Tally has been steadily adding features aimed at improving the respondent experience and workflow efficiency. The bootstrapped company recently launched nested folders to help users organize forms up to 10 levels deep, and added a one-click Typeform importer that lets users migrate existing forms without rebuilding them from scratch. The PDF attachment feature fits into this pattern: small, practical updates that make forms feel less transactional and more integrated into real workflows.
The move also positions Tally more competitively against tools like Typeform and Jotform, which offer similar respondent-facing features but often gate them behind paid tiers. Tally continues to offer unlimited forms and submissions for free, with Pro features like folders and integrations available on its paid plan.
Availability
The PDF attachment option is live now for all Tally users. It can be enabled in the respondent email notification settings of any form. No word yet on whether Tally plans to add templating or branding controls for the PDF itself, but the current implementation focuses on delivering a clean, readable summary of the submitted data.
