Gatheround Launches AI-Generated Intro Messages Through Donut Integration

Gatheround announced a new capability in its Donut integration that uses AI to generate personalized introductory messages for coworkers meeting for the first time. The feature pulls information from teammate profiles, including career highlights, shared interests, and personal facts, to surface common ground before conversations begin.

The update addresses a common workplace friction point: the awkward small talk that often dominates initial conversations between colleagues. By mining profile data to identify genuine connections, announced on LinkedIn, the AI-generated messages aim to help coworkers skip generic openers and start with meaningful conversation topics.

How It Works

The system analyzes information stored in Donut Profiles, which teams populate with professional backgrounds, hobbies, interests, and other personal details. When teammates are matched for an introduction, the AI scans both profiles to identify overlap, whether that's a shared alma mater, similar career trajectory, mutual interest in hiking, or experience living in the same city.

Rather than sending a generic "You've been matched with Sarah" message, the system now generates context-aware openers like "You both worked in product management at startups" or "You're both training for marathons." These personalized prompts give both parties an immediate conversation starter grounded in real commonality.

The feature is designed to work automatically once teams have completed their Donut Profiles. No additional setup or configuration is required beyond the initial profile creation.

Broader Platform Context

This update builds on Gatheround's recent integration of Donut Profiles across its platform. The company has been steadily expanding its AI capabilities, previously launching an AI agenda builder and AI meeting designer to help teams structure more effective virtual gatherings.

The Donut integration itself focuses on facilitating connections within distributed teams through automated pairing and introduction flows. Organizations use it to help new hires meet colleagues, maintain relationships across remote offices, and foster cross-functional collaboration. Adding AI-generated messaging extends this mission by making those initial connections less stilted and more substantive.

Gatheround specializes in structured video meetings and team connection tools, particularly for onboarding and community building. The platform has demonstrated measurable impact on engagement, with customers like Ontra reporting zero dropoff rates and 95 eNPS scores in onboarding programs run through the platform.

Why Personalization Matters

The emphasis on profile-based personalization reflects broader trends in workplace tools toward context-aware automation. Generic messages create friction; they require recipients to do the cognitive work of finding common ground themselves. By surfacing that information upfront, the AI removes a barrier to deeper conversation.

For distributed teams especially, where spontaneous hallway conversations don't happen, these structured introductions play an outsized role in building organizational culture and cross-team relationships. Making those introductions more natural and less formulaic could have real impact on how quickly new connections form.

Teams interested in the feature can access it through their existing Gatheround accounts, provided they've set up Donut Profiles for their organization. The company has not disclosed pricing details specific to this capability, though the Donut integration is available on Gatheround's standard plans.
