What to expect

Learn what separates true AI agents from dressed-up chatbots in this online architecture session on 6 September 2026, led by AI founder Sandeep Bhalekar.

Beyond the scripted response loop

Many systems described as “AI agents” are effectively chatbots with a to-do list. This practical, technically focused meetup explains where the dividing line really sits, and what it takes to engineer an agent that can plan, remember context, use tools autonomously and complete multi-step tasks reliably.

Sandeep Bhalekar, founder of the Global Institute of Artificial Intelligence, will lead AI Agents: Beyond the Chatbot. Hosted by Global Institute of Artificial Intelligence – Melbourne, the session moves past introductory definitions to examine the architecture, operational controls and failure points behind real agentic systems.

What you’ll learn

The agenda covers the core concepts and engineering choices involved in building production-minded agents:

  • Agent vs chatbot: how planning, memory and autonomous tool use differ from a scripted conversational loop
  • The modern agent stack: where LangGraph, CrewAI and AutoGen fit within real-world agentic systems
  • Agentic RAG: how agents ground decisions and actions in relevant data and context
  • AgentOps and reliability: approaches for tracing, evaluating and improving agents after deployment
  • Multi-agent systems: how specialised agents can collaborate to handle more complex tasks
  • Practical guardrails: human-in-the-loop checkpoints designed to make autonomous systems safer and more dependable

Who should attend?

This event is aimed at developers, data and machine-learning professionals, product professionals and other technical practitioners. It is best suited to people who have already moved beyond the basic question of what an AI agent is and now want to understand how these systems are assembled, how their components interact and where they can break.

Live working-session format

Expect a 60-minute online session featuring a practical walkthrough of real agent architecture, followed by an open Q&A. Rather than a buzzword-heavy presentation, the organiser describes this as a working session, giving attendees an opportunity to bring questions about agent design, autonomy, reliability and deployment.…
