What to expect

Starting on the 16th of April 2026, Business Sheffield's TechForge Accelerator kicks off with an essential workshop designed for founders taking their first steps from idea to software startup. Whether you're juggling a side hustle, building an MVP, or have just started trading, this 3-hour intensive session provides a proven roadmap for turning your technology concept into a viable business.

Led by Robin Gibbons and Morgan Killick, two experienced Tech Scale-Up Advisors who have successfully scaled and exited their own tech businesses, this opening session of the five-part accelerator series delivers practical, battle-tested insights from founders who've walked the path before. Their combined expertise brings real-world credibility to the strategic and tactical guidance you'll receive.

What You'll Learn

The workshop provides a comprehensive overview of the startup journey ahead, covering the critical steps needed to build strong foundations for your software-based venture. You'll gain practical advice on navigating the early-stage challenges that catch many founders off-guard, learn about common pitfalls to avoid, and walk away with a tried-and-tested routemap tailored specifically for technology startups.

The session is structured to maximise both learning and networking opportunities. After arrival and networking from 9:30-10am, you'll dive into an intensive session from 10am-11:15am, break for refreshments and informal discussion from 11:15-11:30am, then continue with a second focused session from 11:30am-12:30pm.

Who Should Attend

This workshop in Sheffield is ideal for early-stage technology founders at various points in their journey: those with just an idea they're ready to validate, builders currently developing a prototype or minimum viable product, or entrepreneurs who've done some initial trading and need strategic direction for growth. The content is specifically designed for software-centred startups where technology is core to the business model.

The TechForge Accelerator runs as a modular series, allowing you to attend individual workshops based on your specific needs, or commit to the full programme covering funding opportunities (23 April), monetisation strategies (30 April), MVP development (7 May), and investment fundraising (14 May).
