Improve the Fortran package ecosystem in this focused online hackathon on 6 October 2026, working directly on the community’s package index and metadata. Help make Fortran resources easier to discover Fortran Index Hackathon 8 is a collaborative working session dedicated to improving how knowledge is organised and shared across the Fortran programming community. From 14:00 to 16:30 BST (13:00–15:30 UTC), participants will add, correct and curate information in the Fortran Index, contributing to a more useful fortran-lang community resource. This eighth event builds on progress made during the previous hackathon, where contributors improved navigation through tags. The next stage is an overhaul of the fortran-lang package index, with the goal of helping users find and assess relevant Fortran packages more effectively. What the session will focus on The hackathon will concentrate on practical improvements to package information and discoverability, including: - Adding missing information to the index - Correcting inaccurate or outdated entries - Curating package metadata for the wider community - Continuing the development of clearer tagging and navigation - Exploring filtering by useful attributes such as GitHub stars and the date of a package’s last commit These changes are intended to make the index more valuable both for people searching for Fortran software and for maintainers who want their projects represented clearly. Who should take part? The event is aimed at members of the Fortran community who want to strengthen shared infrastructure and improve knowledge exchange. It offers a concrete way for package authors, maintainers, contributors and other interested community members to support the ecosystem. The event page does not specify prerequisites or a required experience level, so prospective participants should consult the registration information for any joining instructions.… Register for this event
