What to expect

Learn to deploy TinyML models directly on ESP32-S3 microcontrollers in this intensive hands-on workshop designed for embedded engineers. Run real speech and vision AI inference workloads using TensorFlow Lite Micro, Espressif AIoT frameworks, and Edge Impulse — all within a fully simulated Wokwi ESP-IDF environment that requires no physical hardware.

Why This Workshop Matters

Edge AI is transforming IoT and embedded systems, enabling machine learning inference to run locally on microcontrollers instead of sending data to the cloud. The ESP32-S3, Espressif's high-performance MCU designed for AIoT applications, brings AI acceleration features that make on-device inference practical and power-efficient. Yet many engineers struggle to bridge the gap between ML concepts and real-world firmware integration. This workshop solves that challenge with practical, deployment-focused training.

What You'll Build

This is a firmware-level integration workshop, not a theory session. You'll gain hands-on experience deploying and running TinyML inference across three different frameworks:

  • TensorFlow Lite for Microcontrollers (TFLM): Understand core components and integrate speech and vision models with offline input data
  • Espressif AIoT Frameworks: Work with ESP-SR, ESP-WHO, ESP-SKAINET, ESP-DL, and ESP-NN to build wake-word detection and face recognition applications
  • Edge Impulse Platform: Deploy models using the Edge Impulse C++ SDK and understand how it streamlines the TinyML development workflow

All exercises execute in a Wokwi simulation environment, meaning no ESP32 board required. You'll leave with a fully working ESP-IDF development environment, reusable scaffold code, and clear understanding of architectural differences between deployment approaches.

Led by Industry Expert

Instructor Vedat Ozan Oner brings over 20 years of embedded systems expertise as a Computer Engineer, IoT product architect, visiting lecturer, and author of Packt's blockbuster series Developing IoT Projects with ESP32 (1st and 2nd editions). His teaching transforms complex TinyML integration challenges into clear, practical deployment strategies grounded in real-world product development.

Target Audience

This workshop is designed for:

  • Embedded firmware engineers working with ESP-IDF
  • IoT developers exploring on-device ML integration
  • Engineers transitioning from cloud ML to edge ML
  • Makers and develo
