About this event

What to expect

Designed for children aged 8-13, this hands-on LEGO robotics and coding workshop at Oundle Library offers young learners an exciting introduction to programming and engineering through creative play. Hosted by PrepareRobo, this two-hour session transforms the fundamentals of robotics into an engaging, team-based challenge that sparks curiosity and builds essential STEM skills.

What to Expect

Children will work in small teams to design, build, and program their own LEGO racing robots from scratch. Using their imagination and problem-solving abilities, participants will create robots capable of moving at high speeds, then put their coding skills to the test by programming movement, adjusting speed parameters, and fine-tuning steering mechanisms. The competitive element—seeing whose robot performs fastest—adds an extra layer of excitement while encouraging iterative design thinking.

The workshop balances structured learning with creative freedom. While facilitators introduce the basics of robotics and programming, children drive the design process themselves, experimenting with different configurations and testing what works best. This hands-on approach helps young learners understand cause and effect in both mechanical design and code logic.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will develop skills in:

  • Collaborative teamwork through small-group challenges
  • Creative problem-solving as they optimize robot performance
  • Basic programming concepts applied to real-world robotics
  • Design iteration through testing and improvement cycles
  • STEM foundations in an accessible, playful context

No previous experience with robotics or coding is required—the workshop welcomes complete beginners and provides all necessary materials.

Practical Information

The session runs from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Oundle Library on Glapthorn Road. Tickets must be booked for all adults and children attending, though organisers encourage limiting adult attendance where possible to maximize spaces for young participants. If plans change, please cancel your booking through Eventbrite or contact the library directly at 0300 126 3000 or oundle.libraryplus@northnorthants.gov.uk so other children can take your spot.

Register for this workshop and give your child an inspiring introduction to the world of robotics and programming.
