About this event

What to expect

Explore OpenTelemetry for Web with GlasgowJS on Tuesday 13 October 2026, 6:30–8:30pm BST, at Waracle in Glasgow.

The October meetup’s main talk comes from Carly Richmond, Senior Manager of Developer Advocacy at Elastic. In “OTel You It’s Not Just for Backend!”, Carly will examine why frontend observability has lagged behind backend practice and demonstrate how OpenTelemetry can help teams understand UI performance and client usage.

The session will cover:

  • The current state of OpenTelemetry for Web
  • Logging, metrics and tracing with OTel Web
  • Client Instrumentation libraries
  • Useful metrics and traces for diagnosing frontend performance issues
  • Measuring how clients use web interfaces

There will also be a lightning talk from Fuad Laguda focused on a bug hunt. The programme is particularly relevant to JavaScript and frontend developers, web engineers, and SRE or observability practitioners interested in bringing telemetry into browser-based applications.

The event takes place at Waracle, 4, 40 Love Loan, Frederick Street, Glasgow. Anyone interested in speaking or volunteering at a future meetup can use the speaking and volunteering form, while community discussion continues on Discord.
